“Clock ticking for Saints’ coach Richardson”

Post: # 1800980Post st.byron »

From The Age this morning :

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/4-p ... 520i4.html

“Not even two years have passed since St Kilda thrashed Richmond at Docklands in what has proved to be the falsest of football dawns.

Since that high point of Alan Richardson's coaching career the Saints have won 12 of 41 games and now prepare for the Tigers this Sunday at Marvel Stadium with the coach's job on the line.”"...........

Does not make for pleasant reading. There again, Saturday's "effort" looked awful too! I'll be there on Sunday, but if I'm brutally honest, it's more about catching up with my pal Tom for a pre-game frothy at the "Garden Gate" than out of a desire to watch the footy........... but I guess this is a time when we need to hang in there more than ever.

Maybe the batteries will run out.
Thats the only thing that will save his arse.
Surely he knows that he's not up to it. Coach of the year, pigs arse!
Carey is hitting the drugs again.

From Moorabbin Ghost (one of the better and well connected posters on BF):

Richo done and dusted.
Has been told that if his contract extension clause isn’t met then we are going in another direction.
The players desperately need a new voice.
I expect Richo to coach the year out as we can’t sack him until finals are not possible, but if a few more big losses eventuate then I can’t see any way that Bassatt and Lethlean don’t sack him as soon as possible without having to pay his $650,000 for 2020.
This club never lets you down...

Hopefully Ratten gets a chance to coach a few games before we undertake a thorough process of identifying and engaging the best possible candidate (or appointing Scott because he's mates with Lethers).

Yep, Moorabbin Ghost is usually pretty good with info.

So sad....... such a familiar feature of our history to see "coaches under the pump". This club, much as I love them, will not win a flag in the next twenty five years................. There again IF I survive another 25 years, I'd be 99 years of age... I can only hope that Alzheimers hasn't taken the pleasure of the win away from me : "Saints? who are THEY?"

Richo needs to go but according to reports on here, it sounds like it's getting a bit toxic down at Linton St.

Finnis and the current board need to own this f*** up.

Somewhere on here. I can't keep track.

According to the genius Wayne Carey, Richo is being white-anted.

Oh.

I wouldn't consider that a 'report' though, and I also wouldn't call what he described as 'toxic' either.

You know Carey and Cho are mates yeah?

Didn't happen to catch the hysterical article he wrote for his mate about him being coach of the year did you?

And I'm not the bright one?

Spot-on Colleague! This is a time for exchanging our thoughts and opinions with a degree of respect for each other, rather than feud among ourselves.

Love him or hate him I think few would now not believe that we need a new head coach.

Even many successful coaches at any club have not lasted as long as Richo has.

Personally I think our recruiting team needs a major shake up too. Trouble is that head recruiters who really know their stuff are rare.....and poaching their assistants not that fruitful. So not an easy problem to rectify.

Footskills and footy smarts need to be a priority along with true mids.

Sadly, it does appear as though there are a few that aren’t quite ready to call it.

You're not paying attention are you, I don't care who we get because like the majority of supporters it's a subject that is outside my wheelhouse of knowledge so why pretend like I might know who would improve on the incumbent.

What I can do is make guesses based on press conferences and coaches media trained garble and cliches.

Based on some other info I'd say Bevo or Voss might be able to improve us.

The Bevo guess is obviously based on the proven performer in one good year and the rest pretty ordinary.

The Voss guessed based on he's the unproven performer but might have grown and learnt from his first failure.

Now your turn. Who's your pick for coach and why will he or she be an improvement on the incumbent?
