I think some blue skies are coming.

Certainly rapt that we we able to score so heavily. Scoreboard pressure is the best type of pressure

They seemed to be more cavalier and brave.
Perhaps the other guy was far too negative, stifling and killed their flair.

Good to see Seb kick a low pass to JB rather than have a shot himself- on JB's preferred side, too. Nice work

Probably a bit of the sacked coach effect. But we have an easy run to finish off the year, could win another 2 or 3 if we play well 👍

Lost the second half.

Surely Ratten is on notice.

Really too early to tell but what was promising was the way we went about it.

First time we’ve looked daring in a while.

Def the best win this year

We can improve the side which was on the park today - no doubt

And that is the positive

The name of the game from here is the Round 1 side for 2020

The one fact is that it will be a better balanced and more skilful side than we saw on the park today

This is the classic new coach impact. It is not to do with Richo or Ratten it is simply a pressure release game.
The doom and gloom of the last few months of a coach's tenure can be suffocating for the players. As the pressure is ratcheted up on the coach so to it is ratcheted up on the players. The coach goes and all of a sudden a weight lifts and the players suddenly play with a freedom they could not muster before.

Agree with the caretaker effect. It will be interesting to see if we can keep playing this type of footy in the next 5 games (particularly against those sides we always lose to -Adelaide and Sydney).

If we play like we did today then wins against Melbourne, Dockers & Blues should be the result.

As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”

https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-20 ... 60d50c7306
the story was published May 31 this year, on Fox Sports...
it was written just after Scott left the Roos and Norf was about to face the Tigers next.

here's the important bit:
"...Of the 18 caretaker coaches since 2000 that have taken over duties — see the full list below — only seven of them have led their clubs to first-up wins.

Perhaps this is because our expectations of these coaches are so low — if we have any at all — that we vividly remember the first-up wins yet easily forget the first-up losses
..."

Ok, after that was written, Norf beat the Tigers, and in Teague's first game as coach, Carlton beat the Lions.

So we can change the numbers by 3 and 3,
so it's 21 coaches, for 10 wins.

Agree,
The kick seemed to travel low and fast like a cruise missile.
I call it 'a pass'
Only Seb knows what he was thinking

He was definitely having a shot at goal. Cameras panned to him after the kick and he was shaking his head around talking to himself how lucky it was to come off and how s*** a kick it was

I think you've nailed exaxtly the situation. The biggest issue we've had has less to do with who is the coach, it's been injures. We are starting to get key players back which is coinciding with the change of coach and as you rightfully point point out a release of pressure. Rats will have changed nothing this week in the game plan and even playere interviewed after the win alluded to this fact.

I am. That ball leaves Ross from closer to his shin than instep. It looked that way side on at the game and the replayed confirmed it. Nothing surer

Partly right; mainly wrong. For a start - Ratten played a different player to Richo. That alone is significant. "changed nothing this week in the game plan" ... really? When was the last time you saw Jack Newnes used as a defensive forward on the likes of a JJ? When was the last time you saw us go so deliberately and so often through the middle of ground to attack F50?

Jack has played forward too many times to remember. And either you were in the box to get ITK knowledge or you are making a huge assumption and/or possibly confusing big game plan changes for said release of pressure that subsequently improves intensity (which was also there against Geelong but just looked flashier against lesser opposition).

Did the illusion of "delberately" going forward fade for you dramatically after half time when the dogs came and we went back to our side switch gp? We looker real stodgy at times after half time.

Think you are seeing things cause it fits your mindset. Even several players commented after the game that Ratts changed SFA.

What exactly were those comments by players HM?

I'd like to think players simply had the class not to dance on Richo's grave.

Was good to see when the Dogs came at us, like they were always going to, we weathered it and did not stick in that mire of holding on to the ball, chipping sideways until we drowned. That was different.

As was a fast start, very different. I think there's more to the win than Lonie's 2nd game back & a "dead cat bounce". Blue skies for mine.

Credit to Ratten and the players for embracing the challenge.
