It is an awful game but the conditions are horrendous. I was in Canberra yesterday and the last few days and it is so ridiculously cold. It is not fit for man nor beast.

Because we don’t get proper winter in Melbourne.

Try north east America or Northern Europe.

We are soft in Melbourne

GWS getting pantsed.
Pretenders.
Clarkson can coach...nearly as good as Ratts.

Did you see him strip off and run around the Canberra oval a day before their match? Instead of passing responsibility to others he leads. You have no option but to follow your leader and gain strength from his attitude.

His ability to get his players motivated week in and week out and to find ways to consistently reinvent a strategy to counter his opponents is amazing.

Who else would schnitzel his players when they are showing signs of complacency?

It's the little things that seperate the great coaches from the rest. Clarko was in shorts all of last night and no matter what the weather, I think he always wears shorts. How significant is it that he demands that you do not wear long sleeves? It is symbolic of strength, unity, discipline and mental strength.

Such a genius coach, he has his team outsider the 8.

GWS are riddled with injury, they had 6 of their best 10 out, and then some.

Getting that team to win 9 games is a good effort.

They're absolute rubbish on paper.

And the Hawks are injury free are they?

They have an ageing list and last year they finished much higher than people thought and this year they are about to repeat it

The Hawks started each quarter with more energy and beat their opposition in the contest. That is supposed to be GWS's strength. A coach's job is to get his players motivated. Clarko does this consistently

Getting us to 9 wins is more of an effort, considering we are a worse list with more injuries.

Does that mean a combination of AR and Ratts are better coaches?

A much easier draw (easiest in the league?) helped us too 👍

I def think Richo and Ratts have the right to be considered better than Clarko. This one season really says it all

Or it says

Coaches are pretty much reliant on their players.

If Tom Mitchell played this season, would that make Alastair a better coach?

No, of course it doesn't.

Clarkson is reinveting a team that is really average on paper.

They're literally rebuilding.

And whilst doing so, have 9 wins and have beaten top 4 teams.

If they'd played Gold Coast twice they'd be 7th on the ladder.

GWS are pretenders again.

Posters that have admitted they were wrong about Hanna's gastro and the club didn't create a cover story.

Hawks had one of the hardest draws this year. If not the hardest.

The coach is not the be all to end all. The list is always important and the Hawks list is no where near as good as it was which is why they are not a contender this year.

But IMO without Clarko the Hawks would have lost more games this, and their % would have been a lot worse too.

GWS should have one both games against the Hawks.

GWS have a poor to average coach. Hawks have Clarko and that is why they won.

And the Hawks did not just win, they were embarrassed in both games.

After this win the Hawks are still a chance to make the 8. Both Crows and Dons are not yet certain to make the 8.

They won’t make the 8

They are average, and didn’t even beat us without Steven, Carlisle, Hannebury and a few others.

Clarkson is a good coach, obviously but without the cattle his team is just average.

He did win the three in a row, which is incredible... but ... with an awesome team, against 3 interstate teams.
His 08 flag was his greatest achievement, but did Geelong after they were coming off a premiership... as hungry? Did they blow their chances in front of goal?

And
GWS are fickle.

Some of those players have played in THREE premierships and four Grand Finals - one or two in FOUR premierships.
Proven performers.
We get Hill, Ben King and Tomlinson and we will make the top 8 next year.
But a big clean out is required.
