How would you do it?

Would you delist 10 players every year for the next few years? If you did that, you'd only be picking up a few high end younsters in the draft and then you'd have to recruit or trade in other blokes, but I reckon you'd just need to fill your list with State league players wouldn't you?

With the amount of debt that we have and the fact that we've been a cellar dwellar since 2012 means it would be a difficult call for the club. Practically it is not going to happen in 3-4 seasons and perhaps it means that whoever takes on the job has to rebuild slowly

It’s not 1955

How do you replace a heap of players?

You can only have a certain amount of kids, and you only get a few good draft selections
Only a few good players on the trade table
What free agents want to go to a bottom team

Or, how about we hire a private investigator to ‘bug’ the Hawthorn director’s office and find out who they are planning to draft then we jump in and draft them first? They always seem to easily find superstars between draft picks 30 and 50

Worpel was an obvious choice

Gun junior who supposedly had no scope for improvement

I think I recall a poster on here who was pretty spot on with his early calls about 2 years ago. He predicted that we needed a cleanout of all departments after we played our JLT matches in 2018. It was a culmination of observations from our poor performances at the back end of 2017, to list management, to recruiting, to the decision to extend Richo's contract at the end of 2017 and he reconfirmed his position once the 2018 season started...

Find that potty mouthed bloke who called himself Con Gorazides and offer him the role of CEO

Agree somewhat. Although Billings aint crap.

Long Parker have great potential. Give them a break they need at least 3 years.

Lonie will never make it.

Sell everything we can and get HILL and KING

Acres we need to keep. 194cm beast who when on is very good. Possibly his height and positioning is why he is taking long to develop. But giving him up to freo and then he becomes elite would be a disaster.

A lot of the issues is MENTAL. Need better coaches.

Newnes, McKennzie, Lonie, Rice, Longer

Carlisle is a disgrace. Clearly he doesnt care, is slow and makes bad slow decisions.

Get something for him.

Yes it was a great strategy Bassoon. From 1955 we only made the finals twice before 1965 . That showed ‘em .

The Way Clarko Drafted was everything revolves
around your talls ,now we have Bruce at CHF &
if all is to be believed King at FF (Geez we are due for a bit of luck)Membrey as our third tall with Gresh & Long running around their feet so hopefully the forward line is sort of solved ,Battle at CHB was very good if Carlisle goes but we do need a quality Full Back and midfielder maybe Bytel(pray),Marshall is a gun,Wilkie is solid,Billings & Acres would be better if coached properly and surrounded by better players ,not sure we are that far off it our field kicking & shots for goal need vast improvement but we get the ball a shitload as Dunstall said and as he said
if we improve those two things a quick rise is not beyond us!PS Go hard at B.King now!

Personally I don’t think it’s that hard.

Keep players that have demonstrated talent and fit in your structure and expectations even if they’ve had patches where they’ve struggled over the last 2 years

Start moving on players that will never get close to being the players they should

Play undeveloped players that are improving

Don’t offer long contracts to young players that have been in the system a few years longer but have stagnated for a long time

Keep: Coffield, Clarke, Carlisle, Billings, Steven, Bruce, Membrey, Steele, Ross, Gresham, Hannebery, Roberton (if fit), Marshall, Webster, Wilkie, and Battle

The next category is the unproven/unestablished but looks promising though not definite top 22... keep the majority of if not all
Lonie, Long, Parker, Paton, Langlands, Phillips, Hind, Marsh

Then you have the too early to tell group... pbly keeping unless you really need to turnover or you get an offer
King, Bytel, Clavarino, Mayo, Marsh, Austin

Then you have your straight to move on group
Armitage, Longer, Pierce, Rowe, Paddy (sorry but it’s time) and Rice (been long enough).

The final group is where list managers make their money. These are players that can be good, can be average, could be depth, have potential but all things considered at the end of the day they are not yet entirely what we want them to be.
Dunstan
Geary
McKenzie
Young
Joyce
Sinclair
Kent
White
Savage
Newnes
Acres
Brown

Can’t move them all on... and obviously many are contracted. Me personally I would keep Brown for depth, Geary, Dunstan, Acres, White and Sinclair and at a push Newnes and McKenzie but they are on the fringe as they’re only so many to cut

So the guys that go are
Armitage, Longer, Pierce, Rowe, Paddy, Rice, Savage, Kent, Joyce, Young.

That’s 10. Geeez that’s a lot even giving Newnes, McKenzie and Roberton (injury) lifelines. 3 draft picks in, say 1-2 trades and an FA or 2... that’s 7 in at most.

I guess you have to look at that bottom column and see if you can get a trade or two for guys like Acres or Savage. Get something back for Steven in addition to a pick if he goes. Alternatively, guys 1-3 players... pbly those under contract like Kent May get a reprieve.

I guess the reality is we’ve hung on to too many players that aren’t up to scratch for too long

The interesting part of this comment (and situation), is that earlier this year the whole industry was calling for his neck

People were calling out for SOS to be axed, that all went quiet when Teague took over and showed everyone how much talent SOS has amassed at Carlton.

Teague showed everyone that Bolton was the issue, not SOS.
