What’s the latest on Jack Steven?

Post: # 1821132Post bigcarl »

Is he definitely going to Geelong and what are we getting if he does?

I foresee the Cats getting him fit and sharp and him smashing opposition teams for several years to come.

Perfect replacement for little Gaz really.

Don’t forget that Jack is a contracted player for next season.

I hope we’re not happy to throw him on the scrapheap because he’s had a few personal problems.

Get Constable for him and move on.

Constable isn't that good. Why all the praise for him? He may be a gun sure but he could also suck, he is only young. Big gamble for our best player

Let’s hope we don’t let our best player - who is contracted for next season - go without a fight.

Some are suggesting a second rounder. What are we, a charity organisation?

Bloke is a gun and has possibly four good years ahead of him.

There’s a temptation by some to see him as a broken-down old hack, but you need no genius to see that people have recovered from far worse than what he’s been through. And been good as new

That fact is if he says he 100% wants to go to Geelong then we’ve lost all our bargaining power.

This whole thing stinks a bit for me from a player who supposedly loves the club and the boys.

If he wants to leave we don’t.

He wanted to leave last year, and how did that pan out for this season?

Seperate issues

Are you saying he was not happy because he didn’t get traded, and stopped playing?
Even though he is on a 600k contract.

Players can’t just move when they want, there is mechanisms that don’t allow that.

Drafting, trading, contracts.

As I see it if we play too hardball he'll have a reoccurrance of his issues and wont play for us anyway. That happened a few years back with McCarthy when GWS wouldnt trade.

I had a peak at the cats forum the other day and the fans at least aren't keen on Jack. He's quite an underated player outside the saints and coming back unfit hasn't helped unfortunately. If Jack is at all happy to stay, it would certainly be better for the saints to keep him.

Might be better for Jack, too, by the sounds of it.

He who cant be named mentioned in his article that Higgins is a good chance at Geelong and believes this hurts Stevens chances of getting to the Cats. i know that no one at St.kilda talks to Carrot due to hating his guts but he makes a good point. I don't think Steven gets tot he cats if Higgins does, they won't need him.

My feeling is Jack should be reading the tea leaves here and commit to us to be honest, not sure the cats will look after him like we will a club champion. Seems they are 100% interested in need and not player welfare....

would love to see him commit for an extra year and develop into a very dangerous forward pocket.

After watching
- Duckhead struggling to get a kick
- the happy clapper churchy chequebook wanker looking like a washed up hack
- the great steaming heap of wobbly jelly goal-less and impactless
- the team choking again in a final
- their sooky sooky coach blaming everything but himself

I wouldn't be surprised if JS is now thinking "I would be mad to play with them".

I guess time will tell how mad he actually is!

So the Cats made it pretty clear they don't rate Rhys Stanley. And we need a ruck/forward to complement Rowan Marshall.

Stanley is capable in the ruck, capable forward and has good pace and agility around the ground.

Should St Kilda be interested?

I’d prefer Bruce in that role, or Carlisle.

Stanley seems like he hasn't been genuinely embraced by the Geelong leadership. I reckon Scott wanted him in but some of the other coaches and perhaps senior players thought they needed back up at ground level. They were scared of the depth and quality of Collingwood's mids.

Scott lamented not playing him and obviously the weather forecast was one of the deciding factors. Scott said Collingwood were marking everything and he knew it was a mistake to leave out a tall marking ruck/forward.

At Marvel, Rhys would be perfect under the roof and with dry weather conditions each time

He’s an elite player and exactly what they need to win a flag. Take Ablett out of that team and throw in a fit and firing Steven... I reckon they win last night.

His fitness concerns are stupid as well. Jack has been injury free almost for a decade and always very fit. Been an elite player for a while.
Basically taps out for one season with the issue being that he lacks fitness as opposed to recovering from an injury and ppl are talking like he’s coming back from a knee reco

First round pick easily

Or Constable + a second round.

Sliding doors moment.

Keep Rhys as a tall forward/ ruck and draft Petracca or trade Rhys and draft Goddard & Paddy.

How did that work out for us?

Bruce is no champion be he is a good B grade AFL KPP who competes hard and can be A grade on his day, also a heart and some club man.

Trade Bruce and draft our next Hugh Goddard may well be likely.
