Hill to Geelong?

Post: # 1828913Post silverhalo »

I'm getting a bit jack of this now, if Freo keeps making these unreasonable demands, as much as I'd love to have Hill, I'd be really satisfied to get the other 4 as they do address a number of our needs, keep pick 12 for the draft and target a speedy mid.

Yup. Walk away and mark Freo as a team that's not be dealt with again.

If no other club is willing to meet Hill's demands, and that would be more than likely given that he's requesting $900K over 5-6 years, it would be great if Freo was stuck with a player that REALLY doesn't want to be there........may unsettle the club a little don't you think!

I’m for the other 4 as well.

Hill is not the player Freo are asking compensation for. He is A grade, for sure, but not upper echelon elite.

Howard excites me more. Ready made key position players are so valuable. He was on the up before Hinkley Richo’d him.

Not ideal but I've just done the old copy/paste:-

AFL Trade Whispers: Another club emerges as Bradley Hill suitor
AFL
October 13, 2019 4:30pm
by FOX SPORTS

Bradley Hill has nominated St Kilda as his preferred home of choice, but another Victorian club has emerged as a potential suitor.
According to Perth Now journalist Braden Quartermaine, Geelong has moved into the mix to snare Hill, with the Dockers showing interest in Cats midfielder Sam Menegola.

With the Saints and Dockers at an impasse over the Hill trade, Geelong may be able to swoop in and land the talented wingman.

St Kilda had given Fremantle a Thursday deadline to accept Pick 6 and a future second-round selection for Hill.

When the Dockers rebuffed the offer the Saints spectacularly traded Pick 6 to the Giants in exchange for Picks 12 and 18.

It has left Fremantle in an awkward situation, with what was a seemingly reasonable deal now off the table.

Menegola — who was delisted from the Dockers five years ago — has piqued the interest of footy boss Peter Bell and his team.

With Ed Langdon now a Demon and Hill desperate to move back to Victoria, Menegola could provide Fremantle with some more midfield depth.

The trade period continues on Monday morning from 9am.

I’ve put this on in another post but what about this trade, I know I’ll get shot down by a few

1. Saints send Jack Steven to Geelong + 12 & next years second to Freo

2. Geelong send Sam Menagola to Freo

3. Freo send Brad Hill to us

Effectively, Jack Steven, 12 & next years 2nd for Brad Hill.
I know it seems overs, but Jack lost a lot of currency this year with his health issues so if this helps him get better & also helps the Saints get Brad Hill, I’m all for it!!

I can’t remember a team swooping in and knicking a player in this situation. Has been threatened many a time (e.g. Carlisle) but I can’t remember it actually happening.

I didn’t think we can't just walk away from the deal unless Hill announces that he now wants to go to Geelong, which I doubt (hope) he will do. This would undermine the whole trust in trade week. The clubs just need to work it out.

They’ve gotta find something to write about, it’s been a pretty uneventful trade period so far...

Yes we can. Hill has no right to leave Freo. He wants out and we want him but if those fuckers out West can’t be reasonable then it’s no deal. Hill has 2 years left on his contract remember

I agree that it puts Brad Hill in a very awkward situation now - IMO we made them a terrific offer, I'd consider it to be overs, and they stubbornly refused. They want us to sell the farm to get him.....no way! I really want Brad Hill but common sense needs to prevail here - Pick 12 and next year's second rounder or we move on.

Seriously gutter journalism shouldn't get a run on this forum.

It is a sensationalist article with the first line saying "While Hill is considered most likely to be at St Kilda come the end of the trade period, the Cats are understood to have moved into the frame as a contingency club in the wake of a breakdown in negotiations between the Dockers and Saints this week."

Crap crap crap.

Relax people all will get done.

How can you can so sure Jaxons? We made them a terrific offer and couldn't get it done.....If we're having to throw in next year's first rounder, I'll freak

If you think Hill is worth more than Kelly, then I can understand how you think the club bungled the trade.

But if you think that 2 first round picks and some change was too far over his actual value...

Well, you can probably chill a little and look forward to the other trades.

Were we part of the negotiations?

Pretty Simple

Pick 6 and next years 2nd (or Acres)

Was the deal to do

We don’t have 6 anymore, so we will be lucky to get it done... and if we do it’ll be a good effort.

All the others are B Graders or worse and won’t make a great deal of difference

I don’t think Hill is worth 2 first rounders

But if he’s worth 900k he’s worth a bit.

Just because they asked for 2 first rounders initially, do you really think they expected that?
Of course they went high with demands as they want as much as possible for their contracted player.
Give them 48 hours they’d have take 6 and maybe a pick swap?

let them pay over for him. I had a feeling that once Freo wanted all those picks we weren't going to get hill and sound like so did Gubby so they split the picks and will now focus on landing the other four. Hill is good but not that good plus I would rather get King next year
