Good riddance! Most umpires are incompetent, egocentric wannabes and this man was the worst of the lot. The game is better for his retirement IMO.

Just having a quick glance at the AFL 2011 retirements list: http://www.afl.com.au/retirements%20%20delistings/tabid/13717/default.aspx only two blokes there look worth a chat - Craig Bolton and Brady Rawlings. Obviously Lingy would be outstanding. Daniel Bradshaw, possible forward coach? Barry Hall?

King started with Geelong as a 17 year old in 1996 and came to us in 2008 when Geelong lost players due the salary cap. We got a couple of good seasons out of him as a player and he has done a great job as our ruck coach. The improvement in McEvoy's ruck skills last season was remarkable. On top of ...

No, you're right. You can safely assume it is only uncontracted players that will be affected as we won't want to be paying out contracts if we can avoid it. Good point.

Re: Salary Cap & Delisting

"Don't get sucked in by the media, it's not anywhere near as bad as it's made out to be. We all seem to be jumping at shadows these days."[/quote] It's not just media talk Beno88. The club is openly saying that they will be forced to ask players to take pay cuts to keep us under the cap. I...

I think we'll be a fair bit off top 4 next year. I'm hoping to see some young players get game time and improve. This year we saw breakout years for Steven and Mac. Hopefully another couple can do the same. I think sadly we have to big a gap between the crockers/sippos of the world and Stevens to b...

I don't think Ray, Polo and Clarke have much choice but to take a pay cut or risk missing out all together. Freo showed interest in Dawson so he looks the most likely to go to another club through the PSD. Time to put games into Tom Simpkin. Tom Simpkin 191cm & 90kg is around about the right siz...

Verdun I'd say Saad looks very promising but realistically GWS and the Gold Coast will be picking the eyes out of this draft. We'll need a bit of luck to find draftees who will play senior footy in 2012 given that we don't have any picks inside the top 20. We had Cripps, Ledger, Steven, Stanley, Sim...

Re: Went into this trade week thinking we might lose BJ

Come on, it's not all bad. Lost two kids that hadn't really done much yet at senior level. Gained two kids that look promising. And what happened to our cunning plan to improve the club's salary cap position during trade week? That all comes down to how much we were/are over and seeing as you clear...

Good for you. I'm just as keen to see this club do well but IMO we'll be waiting a while. The best part of season 2011 was when were giving some kids a go.

Guru.? Pointless flashy Football? We lost to Port 2004 by 6 points in the preliminary final over there. They went on to win the flag. And 2005 we lost to Sydney after being up at three quarter time in the preliminary. And they won the the flag! You Serious? I think you're highlighting two absolute ...

IMO the GT era was an exercise in pointless, flashy football that was never going to win us a flag backed by inept conditioning staff who could never get a full side on the park. A hugely frustrating time of wasted talent and opportunity. Just as well Saints supporters are a resilient lot because af...

Everyone seems to accept salary cap pressure, and having no money left to pay up and coming players as purely a result of success etc. But the truth is its mismanagement pure and simple. When we gave up our first round pick for Lovett we were assured by Matthew Drain that we needn't worry about that as Tommy 'The Messiah' Walsh was the equivalent of a first round draft pick. Well that first round draft pick just walked out on us for pick 35. Yet another unforgivable stuff up by a cl...

It will be another example of mismanagement of our list since 2008....we cant even hang onto untried kids Not sure what 2008 has to do with anything. The people managing are completely different. If we're dealing in unsubstantiated rumours then there is some talk that Collingwood is the potential mystery buyer and they're welcome to him. I have no problem with a coach who didn't have a stellar career as a player. Obviously being a good coach is more about having outstanding people skills, communication skills and tactical skills. But I do think showing a bit of ticker as a player is essential in a coach and I'm not sure Watters mee...
