Well, it depends on your measure of quality. My recollection is that the 2004 side came into that season having won 4 of the last 5 games in 2003. It then proceeded to win the preseason comp (4 wins) and then 10 in a row in the season proper. That's 18 wins in 19 games. It was very unlucky to lose t...

The problem with Nick is that he'll occasionally slot one through from 45 out on a 65 degree angle, but he's a 50/50 chance from 30 out on a 45 degree angle. He misses those shots that Hamill and Brett Voss would hardly ever miss, and sometimes he misses by a very long way (e.g. when his kick is mar...

Our current style of play is certainly physically demanding, and the thought has crossed my mind too as to whether they can keep this up indefinitely. We haven't put this kind of pressure on the opposition since the first half of 2004. We did it then for 10 rounds but then lost two games in successi...

I think it was 1967 (so we were reigning premiers) we unexpectedly lost to Footscray in a night competition match at the Lake Oval. Can't remember much about it except that Ditterich was playing, George Bissett was best on ground, and there was a smell of doughnuts in the air! I've seen them as a bo...

The point is that Port are a bogey team and generally because we allow them to dictate the way the game is played.

We've allowed them to do it at AAMI, Docklands, and York Park.

We'll win if we keep playing the way we have been. The worry is that that's not the way we usually play against Port.

Every time we play Port we allow them to control the way the game is played. We dictated play against Adelaide at AAMI and have to do the same tonight. Otherwise, the likes of Tredrea and Chad Cornes will waltz around doing whatever they like and we'll be playing catch-up all night. The first quarte...

Can someone verify something about this new rushed behind rule for me? Is it true that a free kick is only given if the player rushing the behind is "not under pressure"? But if the player is under pressure, then it is okay to rush a behind? And where does the free kick get taken from, to...

The disturbing thing about footy is that it's almost impossible to learn the rules by watching the game. I don't know how newcomers to the game cope with it. Just when you think you've got the hang of a rule when a decision is made following a clear-cut incident, the incident will be repeated and a ...

The blind turn.

The little step to the right.

The goal wide open.

Mini's effort took real confidence, looked spectacular first time around, and had the crowd on it's feet.

Maybe the guy has finally arrived.

That's exactly how I see it.

Imagine watching footy if every game involved the opposing teams taking it in turns to kick a goal for almost the entire game and hardly ever missing.

This isn't funny either, but I saw plenty of people in Saints colours walking through the streets of south London on the way to watching the Saints play Footscray at The Oval (1998, I think). I guess the funny part is that so many people would take Saints gear with them to England. Very few of them ...

Carlton The '95 game. They kicked their first goal at the 19 minute mark of the 3rd quarter. Last game of the season in '78 was good too.
