Re: Beau Maister
People Bronx cheering Beau and calling for him to be dropped don't understand modern football. Without his physical presence up forward we would go back to seeing Roo triple teamed, stuck playing closer to goal and consequently getting beaten from pillar to post. Riewoldt aside, there is no other pl...

Then again, our Lenny won the Morrish in 1998 didn't he?

Re: Get physical, Ben!
Starting to agree with this. Watching Hale tonight shows that you don't have to be super mobile and quick to have an impact on the game. It's all about physicality and second efforts. Case in point after the ball goes to ground hale is fishing out a handball while Ben is standing away to one side no...

Re: Just how much has "The Dome" cost us?
True that. Just happened to be our bad luck that one of our weakest moments in club history coincided with the construction of the dome. If I recall we barely had 17000 members at the time, which leaves you very little negotiating power when it comes to picking where you want to play.

Re: What a suprise. Cheats.
Hasn't been mentioned yet I think, but why wasn't there a decision reversal when Roberton was knocked out? Port player ran past the ball and laid a high bump after the whistle. Even though play had stopped, I thought high contact at any stage of the game was an immediate free. We must be the unlucki...

Re: new holding the ball rule
I'm with you curly. It is either both players holding the ball or play on. Umps need to be consistent, particularly when the result causes a potential 2 goal difference.

Re: Newnes = Lesson
On last night's efforts I think he has improved his kicking. Much less of the bombing away that we saw in early games. What has also surprised me about Newnes is his pace. He and Ross in particular put in some big run downs that put pressure on the Collingwood kicker and caused turnovers. As stated ...

Re: Montagna rubbed out for 2
What the cameras don't show well here is the lateral movement. I had a clear view as I was sitting on the 50m line at the game. Magner initiated the wrestle as Joey was trying to run ahead of the play into the forward line. They both grabbed each others jumpers and following a brief tussle, Manger p...

Don't get me wrong I loved Siera - he played some great games for us later on as a mobile ruck. Tough too - I saw Glen Archer bounce off him once trying to lay a bump! (incidentally Brown played out of the middle in that game and was very handy) Unfortunately Watson insisted on playing Tim Elliott a...

There was even more to it than that! There were a lot of changes with our second tier players from 1997/98 as well that killed our side's depth. The retirements of Rod Keogh, Lazar Vidovic and Jayson Daniels meant we lost a lot of hardness and mongrel. Steve Sziller's form dropped away and he was tr...

As a kid I'd go along to the games with my old man and if I can remember correctly, we stood beside one race, not in the enclosure. Under a big VB sign. There was a bloke who would yell CAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARN then after a pause, the crowd would yell SAINTERS! Goo...

I'm with saint66au on Matty Young and David Sierakowski. Young was a very underrated player and was a key element to our running gameplan in the late 90s - in 99, his best year, he was getting tagged on a half back flank. A really unlucky guy too - I remember being horrified when he was dropped for ...

I concur with Sobraz on this one. Having listened to Aussie Jones' special comments during and after the game on 774, he seemed to really be able to pinpoint clearly and concisely where we were going wrong. Furthermore he offered several constructive suggestions for a more attacking style of gamepla...

Tony Delaney was a ripper bloke, just had nothing in the kit bag skill wise. Mark Gale who we also got from Freo was a waste of time. Caydn Beetham i never liked, just because he wasn't prepared to work on his game. If he'd learned to stop kicking helicopter punts he could've been good. I agree with...
