I have been advocating a move forward for Goose on Big Footy. He's a good grab, knows how to apply defensive pressure, and is a good long accurate kick.

It would have been nice if he (and Leigh Matthews) had been zoned to St Kilda, but then we looked like we were about to get our fair share of success to they changed the zones and the Hawks ended up with these two Peninsula boys and Chris Mew.

I think he gets just over 300 points (3 weeks), which because of his good record and a guilty plea will end up at about 180 points and 1 week.

I believe when Shane Wakelin was delisted there were real question marks over whether he would play again. In 2000, he didn't play senior football after Round 5. He did play Round 1 2001 for Collingwood, though. Funnily enough, in a statistical quirk, he kicked the most goals against the team he pla...

I have said that if we lose on Saturday night, I'll be disappointed, but I'll get up Sunday morning and feel pretty satisfied with the season we have had, where we came from that point five minutes into the second quarter v North Melbourne, and how we held serve after finishing top 4. Having said th...

I wouldn't read a huge amount into this. Armitage, Eddy & Geary all could have been nominated at various stages, but they didn't. The flaw in the system is they have to be nominated for a particular game. I didn't have much of a problem with Carlile being nominated over Eddy this week. Remember ...

Day off, mate, so had some time to look up the stats. Footy has gotten the better of me. Most of the Geelong's players performances would be fresh in our minds. Ottens in the PF, Scarlett, S Johnson and Chapman in the GF. Even Lonergan has a BOG in a VFL Grand Final. The only Cat with a question mar...

Let's look at Sunday's likely line-up and their finals experience in depth. Backs Sam Gilbert - no finals Max Hudghton - 10 finals, five in his first two seasons including a Grand Final. Famously screamed at by Stan Alves in 1998 v Sydney. Never had more than 13 possessions in a final. Missed 2005 v...

The reason I would be against this plan would be that it would be bad news for the club I play for - the Elsternwick Amateur Football Club. We play next door on the little #2 oval, and we would almost certainly be asked to leave to enable room for more development. If there was some guarantee that w...

There was one thing about last night that bodes well for next Sunday. The relentless pressure. The best thing about last night from our point of view was that Essendon barely had an un-pressured, un-contested possession. They were hunted last night, and folded like Superman on laundry day. Collingwo...

Milne has always played better with another small forward putting pressure on him and helping him, with the exception of 2002 when he was a lone hand up forward. Schnieder and Guerra have made him a better player.

Lyon has made noises about players having a "four-year apprenticeship", and while this obviously wasn't the case for Justin Sweeney and Philip Raymond, they weren't Lyon's guys. Lyon was at the club when Howard was drafted. Here is the list of players uncontracted for 2009, and my comments...

Players under contract get delisted rarely. Andrew McQualter at the end of last year was an exception, influenced by the fact that he was young enough to be rookie listed, and therefore cost us nothing if elevated, which he was. Rix and Fiora cannot be rookie listed, and would cost us against the sa...

There is also veterans list considerations coming into play. Harvey cannot be replaced on the veterans list because Hayes and Baker are not old enough. That means we may have to carry fewer main list or rookies than 2007-2008. FWIW, I think in addition to Harvey & Gehrig, we will also delist L F...

I thought out of the side who played yesterday, the players with most to fear would be Birss and Eddy. Let's face it - Birss to Ball and Eddy to X Clarke are clear upgrades heading into finals. I never said he was tough - I said he was strong. He's taller than Hamill, and probably as strong through the lower body. His biggest fault is that he looks a bit casual. Same with Raph Clarke. (And Gary Foulds and Joel Bowden, if my memory serves me correctly.) He's not quick, but if he can add a c...

The best part of yesterday was when he took the mark on the wing after using his strength to knock over the Adelaide guy.

If Gwilt can just realise how strong he is, then that Hamill type HFF role is in his future. As a defender, he just isn't quick enough.
