For the older members of this forum what about Rod Galt. I think he played in excess of 50 games as a ruckman before he left the Club. I think he was cleared to Carlton. A GOP?

I agree. Both Payze and McConville were good solid players for Saints. The Club had a few ex Carlton players around that era with WOW Jones about the best of them and Michael Jez at the other end. Actually I had almost deleted Jez from my memory as that whole episode gave me nightmares and this Sain...

Happy Feet I agree with you on Mordi but Glen Elliot was an absolute gun. I saw him with 40 plus positions in a lot of games when we were how you say, not very good. Glan was a class above all the others. Agreed. Elliot was a gun player. His crowning performance in my memory was a StK v C'wood fina...

The last time someone from St Kilda showed some "NUTS" as you call it was when Grant Thomas spoke of UMPIRES' EGOS. Look where that got us. I have a feeling that the AFL (read Demetriou & Anderson) don't want Cousins back playing in the AFL because he has single handedly destroyed the...

Just a question - In 1997 in particular, I really liked Jason Heatley. I remember him winning games for us from full forward. But it became apparent over time that he had trouble marking overhead, or at least that's the conventional wisdom... so his role in the team was phased out. Would you say he...

The Cowboy IMO has to be regarded as a champion of the Club. He lacked height compared with the big ruckman of the day, his weight problems increased as his playing career progressed and when playing as a key forward his kicking accuracy occassionally deserted him. All that said what he did have was...
Stephen Newport??? Was relieved when we delisted him. Then we turned around and redrafted him

Stephen Newport was an interesting player in that I wasn't quite sure how to rate him. In some respects he was probably our original tagger in the deve...

As a midfield coach I still reckon M McGuane is worth reconsidering. I think it was unfortunate that he was part of the coaching panel that had to go when GT lost the job because I think the season he had with the mid field group they improved heaps. By all accounts he was well regarded at R'mond an...

Saintly Safes you have a better memory than me. Rod Keogh was the man. Tough player, left foot natural kick and wasn't intimidated by anyone. I think would have played many more games for the Saints if his body had held together a bit better. I also understand he is Brent Crosswell's cousin.

Spot on Eastern. I had forgotten the actual circumstances at the game but I do remember him being fed up with his side's efforts (which from memory was a bit of a lost cause that year) and the supporters screaming for him to do something which he did and they (the supporters and the local press) did...

This is bloody annoying cause I can't think of the player's name but I can tell you a bit about him. When he arrived at StK during Stan Alve's coaching he definitely gave the midfield a huge lift. He stayed at the Saints for approx 4 seasons. When he arrived he had crook knees and he left cause they...

I was struggling with the info because he changed his haircut a few years ago. I noticed it a couple of years ago in Perth when he was asked to explain some radical positional changes he had in place at the start of a WAFL game. He subsequently left Perth.

Number 11 Greg Burns was a top liner for the Saints. He had tremendous courage and capacity to win the hard ball. He had a toughness that was a bit scary on occassions in that sometimes you wondered whether he really felt that knock to the head he got. The only downside to his game that I can recall...

Thanks for the info True Blue and DocSaint. It was a bit confusing where everyone fits in the new off field lineup. It does sound like another Assistant maybe around the corner if Leigh Tudor is to looking after the Forward line and presumably SOS will do the defence, a coach for the mids is on the ...

Leigh Tudor appointed as an assistant coach - confirmed in the Herald Sun today. Wonder if he will be forwards coach or midfield coach? As a player was mostly played up forward with the Cats. Has been very successful as Geelong's VFL coach. I think that's actually a pretty good get I agree. Good ch...

Can't understand why they haven't announced replacements. Training is imminent with a couple of new coaches that will probably not know the players or the coaching practices all that well. I would have thought to get them on deck asap would have been a good move. These two appointments will be crit...
