Re: Cautiously optimistic

With due respect, The Fireman, you may be neglecting one quality that was particularly evident in the final 20 mins of last Saturday’s game. Our players willed themselves over the line... they were a united front and weren’t going to relinquish their lead. You could sense it; that magical quality wh...

Agreed. Don’t play him in the ruck... it’s a regressive move.

Re: Match Thread Saints v Bummers Round 2 2019

Marshall’s recall to the side paid dividends. Our depleted and inexperienced backline held up surprisingly well.

Re: Match Thread Saints v Bummers Round 2 2019

Imagine how good we could be if we could deliver the ball better into the forward line AND convert our opportunities.

Kent and Lonie called for deliberate and yet comparable efforts from Effendumb (eg. Zaharakis) not paid.

Re: Who made the phone call?

What I don’t like is that the venue (club?) tries to entertain us: tells us when to ‘make some noise’, chooses to play music right up until the first bounce of every quarter...it uses the scoreboard as a TV screen during half time to capture the audience. It makes it a passive form of entertainment ...

Re: 2019 Jersey

Totally agree with The Oracle. The crest is the disappointing part of our strip. It was the defining feature of our jumper for 60 years ( including 66 flag and later worn by Lockett & Harvey). In the past 20 years it has slowly but surely shrunk. If you’ve seen the size of the crest on the new s...

On the whole, these changes are a good move. Especially pleased that Marshall has been recalled and Acres, at his best, is a boon for the midfield. Just hope he starts to deliver on his huge potential.

Still reckon Hunter is a bit stiff to have missed two weeks in a row...

Bruce is wasted in the ruck and it robs us of a key marking option up forward.

Re: Ahhh WTF Hanners?

One of the hardest things is knowing that we the members love this club - despite its excess of warts- and yet we have to put up with decisions made by those in power who may have no real affinity (for the club) and see it more as a means to an ends.

Re: Changes for bombers

Would like to see Marshall included. He’s got several strings to his bow: athletic, good tank, he’s the best mark around the ground since McEvoy and can be an offensive weapon. Agree with others that Nathan Brown will most likely replace Joyce. Brown looked terrific in the intraclub game and he has ...

Re: Rd 1 Saints v Suns - match thread

For such an inexperienced backline, they held up reasonably well. Webster looked assured on his trusty left foot and Darragh Joyce competed solidly. One of the more unheralded today was Callum Wilkie. A positive down back. Parker showed glimpses of being an excitement machine and Newnes was dashing ...

Super initiative, Saints. It’s all about slowly but surely creating a more inclusive society. The two major supermarket chains have dipped their feet in the water by introducing the Quiet Hour shopping experience and there seem to be murmurings that this concept will continue to be rolled out across...

Re: It's official......Paddy will make it

This thread is just over a week old and already appears to be looking like overly-optimistic foolishness.

We all were hopeful that Paddy would finally start to deliver on the glimpses of promise he has shown over the years but the signs now look eerily ominous. :|

Tim Pekin for 41 is a fair pick...Barker played great footy on the backline in 25...Judson has to be 42...but what about the first era of players? What number was Dave McNamara? Vic Cumberland? Bill Mohr was the stand out full forward until Plugger. Neil Roberts?

Compared to your average punter, BJ is already on a great salary...and if he has been sensible with his $, has probably set himself up nicely for the rest of his life. Surely being remembered as a one club player holds as much sway as does extra dollops of cream from GWS.

Yes, I agree with Con G that Lenny's days as capt have passed...I can see no stand out natural born leader amongst the under 23's as yet so like others I believe BJ is the obvious alternative to Roo. Whether that lure could be enough to keep him a Saint for his career remains the great conundrum. I ...

This is the best post I've seen here for ages...someone really trying to understand what makes us the besotted supporters we are. I would love to Waylen to be drafted to the club.

The 'hype/risk/romance' label is well justified (he'll either become known as Waylen Wizardry or Wayward Waylen) but I think he's the potential X-factor that the team sorely needs. Especially if the club can mount another tilt at the flag.

Less than 2 days to go and still no movement...

Despite various media reports earlier in the week of hopeful re-signings, it remains the fact that the following 7 players are still yet to sign new contracts. The clock is ticking... (1) Zac Dawson (2) Sean Dempster (3) Jason Blake (4) Dean Polo (5) Raphael Clarke (6) Brett Peake (7) Farren Ray

7 days and the clock is ticking...

In preparation for the upcoming AFL national draft, St Kilda - like all clubs - has to formally lodge its playing list next Friday. St Kilda still has 6 seasoned players out of contract including one who came third in this year's B & F. There is a possibility therefore, that we could lose not on...

Agreed.

You need to have Milera and/or Saad in the side and as for Blake at FB, well that spells real trouble.
