Milne loses Goal of the Year?

Milne Round 5 versus Franklin Round 13. Forget about the quality of the actual goals -- a packed MCG Friday night game will beat a rainy, poorly attended Port Adelaide match in the buzz-stakes. Plus Buddy is more fashionable than the Tiprat. Sadly, I think Milne will miss out yet again ... and to th...

Mal Brown doesn't think. Thinking is a subversive, socialist theory to such types.

You forgot to mention the way the team was relentlessly pilloried for its game style a few weeks ago. One would have thoughts we were terrorists bent on the destruction of the game.

We overcame that negativity as well.

The Age is a St Kilda sponsor, don't you know. And News Ltd in general feels no shame about hunting down people/companies/political parties "to teach them a lesson".

Isn't there a Didak DVD featuring his every goal or something?

I'd love to see a package of Milne's jawdropping goals -- must be about 70 of them by now.

Yeah, my favourite player, too.

Great skills -- not something the Saints have an overabundance of.

Might be an outrider but his skills are too valuable to put him at the bottom of packs. Rarely gets injured.

If those are the rules, then those are the rules. But I don't like the rules. I'm confident most supporters don't like the rules. The current obsession with clash strips is unnecessary.

I'm no apologist for Collingwood, but they have both a predominately white and predominately black strip. When we are the home team they wear the white one, and there's no clash at all. When they are the home team we wear our white based strip, and again no clash. No problem there that I can see. N...

Can't agree. I'm in no way excusing Essendon or Collingwood, but I thought the Adelaide clash guernsey was hideous ... as are most predominantly-white jumpers. Would much have preferred to see them flashing about in their traditional colours -- when they play the Saints the so-called "clash&quo...

MIlne's problems this year began when the umpiring department released a dvd explaining their new policy re staging. And Milne was one of the players selected to showcase "staging" events in the past. But why select current players? Why not use footage of retired players? Surely they reali...

I expect him to lay a tackle in the forward 50. And since we're the last-ranked team in that category this year, that's gotta be an improvement.

What most rankles me is the networks' insistence on using their expensive slo-mo machines (and showcasing all their camera angles), which effectively means we actually miss portions of play while they replay insignificant "highlights". Add to this the cutaways to the box, and in-play flash...

Bring in some fresh players (e.g. Stanley). They mightn't set the world on fire, but they'd have an upside -- room for improvement. They might provide a spark. Or a good news story. They might re-energize the whole team.

Let's face it, our battlers are really battling.

An awful lot of common sense in this thread. Unfortunately I think the coaching staff gets particularly defensive about unsolicited advice. Which is to say, the more we advise (assuming anyone is taking notice), the less likely it is to happen.

And that's like not seeing the forest for the trees.

Great. Against a superfast Bombers outfit we bring in two lumbering giants and a treacle-slow midfielder. And leave out the winner of the Grand Final sprint.

Let's just hope we don't get a repeat of '97/'98. Team falls agonisingly short of the ultimate prize, and someone -- the coaching staff, the players or the administration (probably all of them) -- gets a bit full of themselves. The result? We limp into the finals, get dispatched in straight sets, th...

Determinations creates speed and skill. Only 18 months ago we smashed the fleet-footed Bombers by 108 points. Michael Frost. But the best ever trade? Craig Devonport to Carlton at the end of '95 for pick 19. Devonport promptly declared he'd fit in nicely playing in Carlton's elite midfield of Williams, Bradley, Ratten, etc. In fact, he played 1 game and was dropped. St Kilda meanwhile used pick 19 to pick u...
