Re: McEvoy and Stanley.

Agree re McEvoy. Stanley is a tease and can be handy at times but I don’t believe trading him was a mistake. Two of the worst trades in my opinion were McEvoy and Lynch. Ben is a great club man and good Ruck men. A lot of people bemoan the fact that he was pick 9 in the draft. Yes, that may have bee...

Re: Geeez that Tom Lynch goes alright!

Lynch's foot skills alone are better than our forward kine combined. They said Crows have not had a top 10 draft pick in last 12 years and here they are on the verge of another GF appearance. Our recruiters have been substandard for years now. Our recruiters recruited him The much maligned John Pea...

Re: Ross Lyon

The way some people bang on about Lyon! Some people can hold a grudge or what! Imagine if they were crossed in real life. People do forget that at our peak in 2009 we scored heavily and we were impossible to score against. Our ability to lock down and restrict teams was unprecedented. Anyway, we mo...

Re: Ross Lyon

Did I say they were "appalling" ? just throwing them into the mix too! no sense in leaving those gems out in the cold champ! I think the point being made by St Byron has some merit. True, Lyon brought in King and Gardiner as rucks, but they were never going to be long term prospects. Lyon...

Re: Ross Lyon

I left out Demspter So a summary of the players recruited during that time would read. One AA Dempster. A dual B & F winner Steven. Duel premiership ruck men McEvoy Four Grand Final players since 010 McEvoy, Dawson, Hutchings and Cripps. A core player for a top four team Lynch. And a player gett...

Re: Cyril.

Troll No not necessarily a troll, its fair comment. We took McEvoy in that draft, now I have a lot of time for Big Ben, however he should not have been taken ahead of a number of players. You don't pick ruckman with a top 10 pick! Interesting comment. Very black and white. Not sure I agree. Ryder, ...

Re: Cyril.

Who was the Saints official who made the decision to pass on the best player in the best side of the 21st century? f****** unbelievable IMHO. Don't bother telling me to get over it. I never will. Well seeing it was the '07 draft I assume it was the same clown who pick Steven at 42. Are you over tha...

Thanks Lyon you asswipe.
Don't blame Lyon. That was our shameful recruiting from 07 to 010 that has caused this. And I am sure you have stated that many times. When Kynch was at the Saints he was no good.

Don't watch it all at once. It might be too much for you to take. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Ng35NFWd2o Well done you have nailed it. Tom's greatest asset is footy smarts. Does he look good to the natural eye? No. He is slow and looks heavy footed when running but he has something you can't m...

Re: Tom Lynch it still hurts

Every time I read these Tom Lynch threads I think, 'did ppl actually watch him play?' He was absolutely woeful when given a go by Ross. Admittedly he didn't get many games, but he literally showed NOTHING when he did play. Now a young bloke doesn't have to be BOG or even in the best players when he...

The thing i remember about Tom in his early seasons, was watching him play at Sandy, I was so impressed with just how well he worked with the big Sandy forward... Sautner He had what i thought was an uncanny ability to lead to the right spot each and every time... Often, just on instinct it appeare...

Re: Tom Lynch it still hurts

Often wondered what people think regards drafting. Was it a mistake to draft Lynch? If so, who was at fault the recruiters, as he was a failure at the saints or was it the match commitee who under valued him?

Re: Tom Lynch, the one that got away

Love the rehashing. Didn't know a 4 year period of drafting was all about 4 players but keep going. Its fun. Just wondering about Crocker, ledger and Siposs. yep that's 3 in the one year. Absolutely agree. Four players in two years is not good enough. Look what we have done since. In one year Billi...

Re: Tom Lynch, the one that got away

The simple fact is 07-010 "where the lost years". That is a direct quote from Champion data. Those fella's know their stuff. You only had to read the Herald Suns redo of the 07 & 08 drafts to see how badly we performed. McEvoy dropped to fifteen. Ouch!! Lynch from 13 to 20. How bad is ...

Re: Tom Lynch, the one that got away

And he might be a premiership ruckman No I don't think that. Most people on here think he is KP player and that's another bone of contention. Why draft a KP when we already had Kosi and Roo? You only have to look at the 09 & 010 Grand Final. Dempster played that role. He is a back men and in th...

Re: Tom Lynch, the one that got away

He played his first game on Dustin Fletcher who really turned him outside out that night. Didn't play again for ages and it wrecked his confidence. Those first 2 statements about his footy are completely incorrect. People read that and say what were the Saints thinking. I think if people want to sa...

Re: Looking back at 09 and 10 off-seasons

Picks 1-20 are the easy ones. It's the gems found with later picks that clubs love and should be what good recruiters are judged on. Another good point. Between 07- 010 and this what really gets up my nose we had two picks in the top twenty. And we wasted them on McEvoy and Lynch!!!! What have they ...

Yes Winmar was a mistake what pick was he again?
Top ten? no, top twenty no or 30 that's right a mistake.

Re: Looking back at 09 and 10 off-seasons

Mark Hutchings??? Exception or just not good enough? Yeah Lyon realised after 07 when St Kilda took McEvoy at nine and then didn't have a pick till 42 and took Steven, that there were signs, the recruiting wasn't up to it! In 08 to take Lynch a third forward at 13 when we already had McQualtor and E...

Re: Review - Saints vs Crows

We need at least another 8-10 players on the list who are high draft picks under pick #20. To be elite that is what we'll need. Unfortunately I saw one of them yesterday, Tom Lynch, who I think is a very smart footballer. I think after results this weekend and the possibility that we may not get Ro...
