Re: Coming to terms with “Sainthood”
Ridiculous negativity On Saturday St Kilda had 6 players with a total of less than 40 games experience. Coffield, Austin, Battle etc all with less than 5 games each! Carlisle, Acres, Robertson, Bruce among others all out for various reasons. Defence particularly badly undermanned St Kilda will certa...

Re: Show some flaming ticker
Huge negativity after round 2 loss St Kilda effectively had no ruckman after half time with Longer injured and North had Goldy in vintage form. 6 day break for first 2 games did not help. After 6 months of not playing, 2 games in only 144 hours is a huge challenge! Did North really have a hard game ...

Re: Match Thread v Swans JLT Round 3
Beaten only by the Sydney rule that states that Sydney must win all close games in NSW
Had Dunstan or McCartin scored a goal, they would simply have continued the game until Sydney scored the winner.

Re: Anzac game
Essesndon has won 1 flag in this Anzac day game era as has collingwood (against us unfortunately)
I am happy for this meaningless game to continue. Who remembers the result on grand final day!
It is only worth 4 points after all for all the hype

Anzac game
The AFL should end the season on ANZAC day. Simply declare the winner of the coll ess game the premier!
We are constantly told that this is the biggest game of the year do why not make it the Grand Final as well!

Re: 1968 - missed opportunity for Saints
Dave Mac You are correct - Saints could not beat Carlton during 1967 to 1973 when we were in contention and they were strong I think 1968 finals would have gone like 1. STS def ESS; Carl def Geel 2. Carl def ESS (straight sets) in prelim 3. Carl def STK! Carlton would have won from third, an impossi...

Re: 1968 - missed opportunity for Saints
Of course I was also at the semi final. My memory is that saints were never in the game. To top it all we had to catch the train back to geelong since we were holidaying on the bellarine coast. Bill Ryan took a mark about 10 ft above the pack and it was all over in the first quarter A very sad end f...

Re: Greg Baum a saints man
What a patronising comment!
Greg Baum follows Collingwood who won a flag due to a unlucky bounce that gave them a second shot at an exhausted St Kilda.
St Kilda was a powerhouse from 2004 - 2011 and not a basket case like Melb as he implies

1968 - missed opportunity for Saints
As an older supporter, I often reminisce about previous eras. In 1968, the Saints returned to their 1966 form after a disappointing 1967. In round 8 in the first quarter, they kicked 8 - 7 to nil against Essendon at Moorabbin. Herald football writer Alf Brown said this was the most amazing football ...

Re: probe into umpiring on last weekend
I remember round 10 1970 clearly.
52 pts up at half time only to lose by 7 pts
Never felt sorry for Collingwood losing grand final that year in similar circumstances!!!

Re: Big Footy etc
Great initial post ILPK - totally agree with most of your sentiments The traditional powers simply cannot buy premierships anymore in the current socialist AFL era. I think the spread of talent is much more even than the BF posters concede I did not realise their success had been so limited since ab...

2013 membership
I renewed my membership recently. The ticket says Premium Adult admits to home games and 5 away games in Vic... No mention of Social Club as on the 2012 ticket? The cost was $430 - same as 2012. Does this include Social Club membership? I doubt STS will make Grand Final in 2013 but I do not want tha...

Re: Why that was a fantastic win
After being canned all week, it was obvious melbourne would come out firing. I think they would have pushed any side in the afl last night in those slippery conditions. This was a good win on a night when an upset was on the cards. It is always dangerous to play a side that has no won a game.

Re: Remembering 1987
I also saw that amazing mark My brother had his head down - depressed at the time - and missed it Probably only bettered by Goddard's grand final effort of 2010 in my 45 years of following the Saints The roar from the stand was off the decibel scale I also regard Winmar as one of the greatest to eve...

Dazzling Darrell
Why DazzlingDaryl? Note that his name was spelt many ways in the 1960s! Late August at Moorabbin 1966: the equation was simple - Saints were trailing Hawthorn and would miss the finals altogether if they lost. Richmond, well ahead would finish 4th; Saints 5th. Jeans was faced with a dilemma: play th...

Re: Riewoldt's output in 2012
All players look great in Feb but I have a feeling this could be a good year for St Nick!
He had a terrible 2011 but still took only 27 marks less than the incredible Cloke - best forward of 2011
