Re: Arie Schoenmaker

You might have something there skeptic. In the the current 'woke' era of political correctness it is not at all surprising that some clubs will have dismissed Schoenmaker lest his past history, even if of trivial concern, might be evidence of the club having a poor culture. I'm banking on St Kilda's...

Re: SEN listeners don’t rate us 📻

Those with a good memory will remember after the 08 finals series that everyone predicted that we would slide down the ladder. We finished top 4 by smashing the bombers reserves team by over 100 points in the last game of the H&A season to win either 13 or 14 games. It was a very average group ...

Re: SEN listeners don’t rate us 📻

I do agree we were lucky to make finals in '23. We peaked in that narrow loss to Collingwood and by mid-May, after the Adelaide debacle, we were on the slide. However, we seemed to hang on and hang on thanks partly to other results and having a crack. I think we might be better next year if injurie...

Re: Will these players be better.....

It's impossible to say with any degree of certainty that the new players will in every case be better than the players who've departed. Neither highlight reels nor reports of their form in junior footy or at the draft camps can be relied upon to determine that they will perform well in senior footba...

Well, yeah, that was over the top, but more to the point Darragh Joyce only played 5 games for the Lions in 2023, so clearly the Lions came to the same conclusion about him as St Kilda.

Re: Assistant Coaching changes

I like it, no adverse reflection on Lenny, but BJ is a far more aggressive individual and may well take that characteristic into how he wants the midfield to play. In many ways midfield as the engine room of the team is the most crucial coaching role at a club. I was hoping to read that Robert Harve...

Re: Arie Schoenmaker

What’s the rumour here? All I can find is he bought alcohol for underage teammates which seems much ado about nothing. That's all I could find, and his response was humbling enough to chalk it down to a teenager making a mistake. A second indiscretion becomes a problem. He also had to face up to hi...

Re: The recent shift in age demographic

I'm not sure you can draw parallels between Test cricket and AFL football in terms of youth v age Shane, one is a relatively gentle game, the other an extremely physical contest. However there is no question that in footy having too many young players will not win many games, it certainly requires a...

Re: Arie Schoenmaker

Me suspects they did not intend to take 5 picks but when they realised that Schoenmaker was still on the board they pounced. In German the "E" immediately after the "O" indicates there should be an umlaut on the O converting the sound to "ur" as in Danke Schoen, the Sc...

Re: Lance Collard

In one of the clips Collard is interviewed and when asked who he aspires to play like he responded' "Shai Bolton". Looking at some of his highlight reels he certainly shows some of that mercurial dash and leap for marks that Bolton does, so if he can produce that for St Kilda that will be ...

Re: Darcy Wilson

Very happy with this pick but did he look a bit deflated in the interview? That occurrred to me as well Vaz, but the following quote by a team mate on the FoxFooty link dispels that: " Bushrangers’ teammate Connor O’Sullivan was full of praise for Wilson’s dedication and work rate. “Darce, if ...

Re: Sandringham Dragons

For anyone interested in the facts of Gaelic footballers playing in the AFL, the full history can be read on Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irish_experiment_(Australian_rules_football) It reveals that almost every AFL club has either recruited players from Ireland or toyed with the idea. I...

Re: Sandringham Dragons

Why any genuine St Kilda supporter would rubbish the club trialling a young Gaelic footballer from Ireland is crazy. Liam O'Connell has been signed as a category B rookie so it's not as though he will be competing for a spot in the seniors until well after he's proven that he has all of the footy sk...

Re: 5 day break

Quite true that St Kilda faces a very tough two opening games, Geelong at the Cattery followed 5 days later with a game at the G against the reigning premiers, and a likely (on paper) 0-2 start to the 2024 season. It will be an early reality check for the team but it's hardly a foregone conclusion a...

No excuses from here on in, Max was picked to be our franchise/marquee player. Has to kick 60+ next season to announce himself as such otherwise it will become very concerning with regards to wasting another FRDP. Needs to improve his mindset and not spit the dummy when he loses contest or misses o...

Re: St Kilda's Strengths and Weakness

Board members work behind the scenes, there's no way anyone will ever find out what Jason Blake's input has been but suffice to say that as a very experienced past player (219 games, 14 years) he qualifies as a competent football person. He graduated at RMIT wirh a double degree in Bachelor of Civil...

Re: St Kilda's Strengths and Weakness

Gauged on some of the comments you would think St Kilda either stalled or went backward in 2023, that the wheels on the Saints bus are likely to fall off. I agree that the jury is still out on giving a vedict on Ross Lyon Mk III, but let's wait and see how 2024 pans out before making any judgments o...

St Kilda's Strengths and Weakness

Following is the review of St Kilda's performance in 2023 on AFL.com: " STRENGTHS: Ross Lyon's arrival has turned the Saints into the best defensive team this season, conceding just 71.6 points a game (No.1) and ranking top four for points conceded both from turnover and clearance. Conceding a ...

Dan McKenzie will only ever be a depth player. Hopefully gets to play 100 games in RWB. That's probably true, and as such it would seem highly unlikely that any other club will make a play for him simply on the basis that he puts in a strong pre-season. He's no certainty to force his way into the t...
