Early thoughts re Sydney
Dunstan and Coffield for Geary and one of Newnes, Savage, Weller - probably Weller. Have suggested to Longmire Buddy be rested, that long flight from Sydney can be depressing. Lonie on Stager Sinclair; Lonie is closest thing we have to a feather (as in knock him over with, not arouse him). Have not ...

Re: Trout gone end of Year
By end of year we mean before the Nov. draft don't we. I think his removal will probably guarantee a resurgence in form from Paddy and youngsters being in peak form towards the end of the season. Murphy's Law #15 - unintended consequences.

Probably. But so awkward, those elbows and knees keep catching the odd head or two, or three.

Ross Lyon - fashionista de la hair
Apologies for this trivia, it's a function of an unhealthy pathological dislike for R. Lyon. Has he dyed his hair and or is wearing a toupee? Just watching Freo v Collingwood. If so Ross I salute your rejection of total defence/march of time and the embracing the shallow cosmetics and young ideas- n...

Its also very hard to get an LBW decision in Perth against the WA Shield team. Its a different country over there and the officials need to keep safe. Apparently they are (only) human.

Re: Free kicks v WCE
Maybe why Perth sides have failed in the big dance. Come to the MCG after home finals, don't get the usual gifts and become confused. WC and Freo should ask umpires boss to have umps use level playing field approach occasionally to get the feel of it.

Re: Brown injury = blessing in disguise
He was good and as suggested may have shown Richo that too conservative a selection policy is counter productive long term when there is not a lot at stake short term - i.e. odds on to lose either way. Might cost a pecking order in the draft, but.

Yes a selectors dilemma if all are fit. looking for best worse option Jarrad perhaps captain from the fwd pocket or be the designated tagger.

Who knew the corner was at Burswood 6100, that's a long way from Moorabbin but its been turned. The effort next week needs to be a flogging of the Suns. Forced inclusion of young chaps has been a blessing - not much more house cleaning to go. Good on you Richo.

Seb will captain next year. Geary's injury a kindness to the selectors. Savage has to go, but. Then the backline will look pretty good.

Re: "The Noise Of Affirmation"
Its good that female umps can be equally poor in reacting to the affirmation factor. What has it been worth so far: Cripps a goal, Nat a goal, Gresham not a goal, goal after Rice was kicked in the ankle. It doesn't mean they are not a far better side but gee it makes it tough.

Re: Umpiring in the West
Was always thus and will continue until umps making crowd calls in Perth for WC and Freo are dropped the following week. Compounding a mistake with a 50 penalty/goal is unacceptable.

Re: What I want to see v Eagles
Three or so simple wishes? Coaches have a tactic for the Flying Fijian and Captain Hurn; Membrey gets his first shot and kicks as many goals as behinds and no oobs; Someone (from the Saints) has an absolute blinder; no injuries.
Hope the food on the plane home is ok as well.

Re: This can be the difference a new coach makes
Taking the soccer analogy, Zinedine Zidane just took Real Madrid to a third straight UEFA Cup final then resigned to enable a new coach to add freshness - what a guy. Of course Real Madrid has a lot of top flight talent, nevertheless at the other end of the coaching scale Richo must be painfully awa...

Re: When did we become so boring?
Begs the question why Gresham and Billings are so often played forward when they can't kick straight for goal. There is an unhealthy dogmatic style to the coaching even with clear evidence it is not often appropriate, and that is a bore. It won't be boring to see how the coaching staff try to combat...

Re: Breaking Upwards
None of the above, although #2 might be in the ballpark. Theory developed from the comfort of having no idea what is happening between Coach, Players, CEO, Chair and Director of Football (an Orwellian title at St Kilda in 2018 if ever there was one): Richo had reservations about choosing Paddy but w...

Huge challenge for the medical staff. His parents must be very concerned. Hope for all concerned his particular situation is getting better understood. Maybe six games on two off is the sort of pattern he needs. Certainly another big forward is essential to take the heat off him and for his RDOs. Pe...

Re: After the West Coast game.....
Relegation threat is an interesting one. The bottom EPL clubs often use "park the bus" tactics wise against the top 5 to try to limit the damage. GT tried that once against Sydney and we pinched a draw catching them on the break a few times. I don't think AR has a heavy vehicle licence tho...

2018/19 Budget Assumptions
Less than 41,000 members by June 2019 Round 1 team 2019 will have at least 10 changes from team that ran out for the start of 2018 95% or greater change in coaching staff Draft pick in first 3 or lower in 2018 will actually be good based on sheer luck/weight of early picks, if not judgement New sele...

Keeping powder dry for a big explosion soon to come. I imagine he is sounding out big backers, sponsors, the AFL and Nick about the consequences of thanking AR for his services and applauding him for deciding to spend more time with his family.

Re: Getting that elusive free agent
The big hook is a credible passionate coach and a Board that backs him. Once the Richo boil is lanced a lot of things will start to heal as the Saints long time brand isn't all that bad. I watched him (AR) on 360 Monday night and I think he has a problem in relating to reality. What's that called? W...
