Re: No. 14. What you see is what you get.

I do. 8.5 wins in 2010, same again in 2011. After beating Port in Round 17 (and in 9th,) lost to Hawthorn by 9 goals, and then lost to Geelong the following week by 186 points. A side doesn't lose by that margin on the verge of the eight without some underlying reason. They got rid of one of their f...

Re: No. 14. What you see is what you get.

Ghost Like - there was a player that got squeezed from Melbourne in 2010. James McDonald was his name. After four rubbish seasons, they were building OK, Then they retired McDonald prematurely. It ruined Melbourne for a good six to seven years, because not every ting is on field. I tend to agree wit...

Re: Football is Unrecognisable

I tend to agree with SK. Not as an asterisk Premiership, but games are becoming unwatchable. Friday night a case in point, Collingwood v Brisbane. One of the most pressure filled games I've seen on the TV. But as a spectacle? Crap. Too many players on the ground - too many interchanges. I'd love to ...

Re: No. 14. What you see is what you get.

One of the first games he played - us v Port in 2009, Won a kick in the forward line just before half time - an shanked it. A great heart and soul player for the club, and if he gets squeezed out from the best 22 next year, so be it. Every Premiership team needs one of the likes of him (just not 4 o...

Re: Team vs Hawks

The Hawthorn lineup is quite weak. I understand the concerns giving Lonie, and Marsh another go - but Membrey is injured. Who else is coming in for Membrey instead of Marsh? Lonie coming in for Hind? Well Nick was good for a couple of weeks, but has done nothing since the Sydney game. Whilst the mid...

Re: Ladder of hate

Maybe look at it a fortnight ago? Previous form should mean nothing (but for us it has). Beating Sydney on Saturday should mean that we have got rid of three out of three bogey sides in under a month. Maybe make the finals this year (or not), but layering some serious base to which to launch.

Re: Plugger - Sheer Joy

I was there at the MCG in 1987 when he kicked 12 out of 14, and we got flogged. In the last quarter Lockett did the ruck work in the forward pocket, tapped it down, and because our mids were getting beaten he crumbed his own tap work, and kicked an unbelievable goal. It was the first time he kicked ...

Re: St.Kilda Historical Website

Well, I'm not interested in recent anecdotal history. I'm more interested in sites like (how I hate saying it) Bluemuseum, Or Demonwiki, or Tigerland Archives. I'm 57 - yes so many stuff off the last 20 years, but before that??? The Reserves side that kicked close to 30 goals in the early 20s. The o...

St.Kilda Historical Website

Hello all. Rather than being at the conversational/argumentative level (which drives this website), I'm jealous that we don't have a website like Bluemuseum, Demonwiki, or Tigerland Archives. Yes, three great clubs, but so are we. I have scores (not players so much) of our three grades. Even more im...

Bit of a reality check. It was Tony Jewell who coached us through 1983, and most of 1984. A guy who won a Premiership with Richmond in 1980, and then ended up with us, At Richmond, he had Michael Roach, David Cloke, Jimmy Jess, Dale Weightman, Mark Lee, Maurice Rioli, and Robbie Wiley (not to mentio...

Re: Was this our best win ever?

I'll cut it down to two games. 1997 - Round 19 Sydney v St.Kilda. Unlike in 1994 when the Swans were a rabble, both sides were eyeing a Top 4 finish. At times we were six goals down, but finishing over the top of them in the last quarter, proved that we could mix it with anybody. Move forward to 200...

Re: A classic from 40 years ago

If I remember correctly, Keith Greig ran riot after half time. The good news in that loss was that we were ultra competitive against the previous year's Premiers. We went on to beat Geelong, Melbourne, and Essendon after this game - and then the catch cry of Animals by the Essendon Maggot of a presi...

Collingwood had already beaten Melbourne by 100 lints - I thought no hope. A great half time lead, and then fighting back in the last quarter - that's what you want to see your side doing. A great win.

Re: Was this our best win ever?

I go a bit further back than most of you. A game against Richmond in 1975 - maybe Round 10. Half time scores Richmond 9 - 8 62 to us 1 -8 14. Dad wanted to leave at half time - me, I convinced him to stay - we ended up winning by a couple of goals. Others that come to mind: 1976 - beating Hawthorn a...

Re: Who will be captain in 2020?

Well, until the Port game, in our best 22. Hopefully fully recovered from very bad injuries.

He's not getting younger either - hope another two or three years.

But in the mean time, we need to be grooming another player to take over that role.

Re: Why trade away so many picks?

It's got to be remembered that this years and next years are supposedly shallow. How many picks in the top 10 have we had since 2014? The ones that come to mind are McCartin (bust), Billings (O.K.to good), Clarke and Coffield (upward trends for both of them), and M King (jury still out, but I have g...

Re: Dougal and Ryder Trade done.

It all comes down to this. In the last six years, we have not been able to develop a range of players up to their full potential, e.g. Billings, Gresham, Sinclair, Lonie, Acres, McCartin, etc. etc. We get some mature aged recruits/guns, and then we need to fix the Development side of our Club. I thi...

Re: We Could Emerge The Winner In Trade 2019

I'd keep Acres and Lonie. Bruce wants to leave it seems, and Carlisle has been nothing but trouble. Lonie was very good before his knee injury. Our issue has been getting the ball in quickly and accurately into the forward line. Hill will certainly help, but even Jones might help if he can win enoug...

One Thing is For Certain

We seem to be in so many possible trades. Hill, Ryder, Jones, and now possibly Howard and Butler. It seems as though our team for 2020 will be very different from 2019. Especially if King, Bytel, (and possibly Roberton) come into our 22. I'm excited about next year - new coach, new players. Whether ...

Hi All. First post. It seems to me, that after the so so Season of 2019, that's where our focus is to me. Apart from the current names in the club like Roberton, and McCartin, the names of King and Bytel come into mind. Let alone Webster, and a few others. I get so frustrated when a player through i...
