Re: Ben Long

I would like to get the thoughts of other forumites as to where they see Ben Long's develop. IMHO he is still the same player he was in 2017-8. His stats seem to reflect this. He has averaged 11 possessions a game over his four years, with one year that number soaring to 12. His performance in the ...

Re: 2nd oldest list / oldest list

Last night after the game the female commentator when interviewing Hill said we had the 2nd oldest list. This caught me by surprise as it did Hill - he actually exclaimed ‘we’re not the 2nd oldest’ or something to those lines So I looked us up, turns out hill is right, we’re not the 2nd oldest, acc...

Jimmy Webster...almost the forgotten man

Wasn't it fabulous to see Jimmy Webster back playing again. It's been a while. he hasn't played senior footy for a long time, tend to forget what a handy player he is. He's deceptively tall, has pace, courage and when he kicks, the ball travels low & quickly through the air. Fingers crossed Jimm...

Re: The Mosquito Fleet

It's exciting to have such an arsenal of small forwards buzzing around the big boys. I was keen on Higgins long before we got him, firmly believe he'll be in the conversation of the recruit of the year at season's end. What I love about him is the energy he brings and the fact he has such a high foo...

Re: Practice Match v North Melbourne 25th February

Just watched the game & was pleased with the ball movement and intensity. A bit hard to judge though, as it looked like an AFL vs a VFL side, no disrespect to North, just how it looked. Paul Hunter can consider himself very fortunate to get on a list, hope I'm wrong but seems barely a VFL standa...

https://youtu.be/0KCYVUqdBYc https://youtu.be/8RJtU6X0pTY Thanks Kosi just watched the match & yeah we were ok but it's just a scratch match & very difficult to gauge that performance when both sides weren't really playing for sheep stations. I guess we will see pretty soon when we are play...

Try not to dwell on the draw...if we’re good enough the draw is irrelevant & to go from a good team to a great team we have to fear no one and win anywhere as in ‘09.

Re: Darragh Joyce - the forgotten Saint.

It must be difficult for a young man with a hurling background to come to a foreign country & play a game he knew next to nothing about.
Add to that he’s had injuries along the way.
Hopefully he gets a good run at it this year and his development can be fast tracked, otherwise not a good outcome!

Geary would be amongst StKs best ever value recruits Late Rookie Pick 200+ games Multiple times top 5 in B&F (inc a RU) Captain for 5 seasons Agreed, would be our best value recruit by a fair margin only challenged by Milne. Some others off the top of my head excluding trades: - Milne off the r...

Interesting that Basset makes comment about generating revenue from on field success. Although they say the balance sheet isn't healthy I'm surprised our debt only went up by $1 million in 2020. I'd be interested to see more meat on the bone with regards to Bassets comment regarding finding alterna...

Re: Another hamstring down - Jones also sidelined

Won't be surprised if Gresham is a starting mid in round 1, alongside Steel & Hunter Clark. Gresh's form in the 2 scratch matches I've seen has been brilliant, his clearance work is something we need. Hopefully, Jones will be right for round 1 but it is a concern he's had 3 hamstring issues sinc...

Pound for pound Wilkie is the best defender at the club.
Shame we didn’t draft Marlion Pickett instead of Robbie Young...I was disappointed with that.

It’s funny... I was thinking of starting a similar thread He’s a tricky one because it’s very clear that he’s best absolutely good enough and that on his day, he’s very damaging with his ball use... doesn’t get a lot of it but seems to really have hurt factor about him I was delighted when he was f...

Saints coaching merry - go - round

I've always said, supporting St. Kilda is a character builder! Wins few and far between, one solitary premiership in 140 plus years out of at least 8 grand final appearances. It's staggering that we've had 46 coaches in that time, with Alan Richardson the second longest serving coach in our history....

Clavarino did play but had no impact...in his defense, he's had another restricted pre season, just can't seem to get a good run at it young Oskar.

Nonetheless, these sessions are really important for the aspirants as they get to showcase ...

Scratch match report - Friday Feb 12

Another scratch match this morning, with the black jumpers vs yellow jumpers again. The black jumpers had the first choice mids and forwards, with the yellow's having the first choice defenders mixed with Sandy fill ins. For the blacks, Gresham, Crouch, and Steel were the starting mids, with Hill, R...

Re: Welcome Mason Wood

Wood is worth a punt.
He is hungry and the type of player we lack, mid size
hybrid type forward.
He’s a bit different to Membrey & Battle and will be a
handy back up to those 2 or changing it up a bit if we
don’t want to go with 3 smalls up forward at any stage.

Does the form of Wood, and the forward synergy between Higgins and Gresham make Jack Lonie's selection prospects (more) problematic. Even though Wood can't (?) be classed as a small forward - he is quite large - there are only so many places; Wood is left footed, yes, quick and I suspect a better o...

Both Ryder and Marshall played on opposite sides, neither had much impact, I believe both of their workloads have been conservative.
McKernan did some ruck work but was mainly used forward...Alabaskis still seems a mile off.
