Re: Evolving

Thank goodness fans don’t select teams. In my recollection, Battle played in the ruck against Mumford (?)when Marshall went 9ff in a game against GWS. He struggled mightily but isn’t anywhere near tall enough. Apparently Garcia is now one of the first picked on the basis of an (admittedly good) game...

Re: Sandy v Giants

29 disposals for Jones is good accumulation of the ball, if nothing else. I realise he's mistake prone, but he surely can't have been all that bad.

Re: In Garcia, Windhager Out Hastie Jones

I though Zac was ok last week Too the game on Was hard at the ball As I already posted on another thread, so did I. He stood his ground and opposing mids thought twice before running in his direction. He indirectly helped us win the clearances. But he certainly made a lot of mistakes. Many fans, es...

Re: AFL StKilda tax sees Green free to play

Sorry, but we all know that certain players are allowed to get away with things that other players get suspended for. No, there is no conspiracy against St Kilda but anyone trying to suggest that the marketable players and teams do net get preferential treatment is living in cloud cuckoo land. If t...

Re: How do we fix the forward line?

As per my suggestion on another thread. I would suggest swapping over Banger and Boris in their roles as assistant coaches. I have enormous faith in Boris's ability to solve the puzzle of how all the forwards should position themselves. I think the answer is probably first to settle on three talls: ...

Re: Ugly football

I agree that the ground was difficult to play on and evened up the teams. I reckon that we'd have won quite comfortably at either Docklands or the MCG. BTW, I think we should give great credit to RTB and his team for making some adjustments after quarter time which brought us back into the match. (T...

Re: Max vs Ben

I don't think the problem is so much Max as it is the whole setup up forward. The forward line has been far from consistent in terms of personnel over the past season and a bit. As a consequence, it has looked quite disorganised for much of the time, especially since Max has come back. Oddly, it pro...

Re: Coaches votes Tiges v Saints

Gee some coaches this year seemed to be totally blinded by their bias. Last week, in a game that was only decided in the last few minutes, Brad Scott would appear to have failed to give a single vote to a Saints player. This week, in a game we actually won, it would appear that Yze gave his first tw...

Re: AFL StKilda tax sees Green free to play

I don’t understand how anyone who believes this sort of garbage can stand to keep on following the game. Try telling a Dockers supporter this week how unfairly the Saints have been treated and see how far it gets you. The AFL is an imperfectly-run game managed by imperfect humans. As an example: if ...

Re: All anxiousness aside

We won the clearances, even though Nankervis is a heaps better tap ruckman than Marshall. Nobody will agree with me, but I thought Jones played a part in that result. He stood his ground in stoppages and made it hard for the Tigers to get the ball out. Yes, he stuffed up in other respects, but he m...

Re: Ugly football

And in a totally unrelated subject, the use of technology in aiding decisions should not be limited when a score is involved. I haven't read anything "official" but did read one report that in the C-F game, one umpire called touched and another umpire called mark - and since he was the &q...

Re: Side vs GWS

If Hastie had done enough to be selected, he needs to start. You can't pick a kid, give him 35 minutes of footy in two weeks and then drop him. I agree, although I think we did it a bit last year to Byrnes and possibly Sharman too. Hill might be touch and go off a six day break and two flights. Sur...

Re: Side vs GWS

Interesting that Ross said in the post match something to the effect of “Ro was exhausted. We have Campbell who will probably come in at some point”. Maybe not this week, but it looks like maybe we’ll give Marshall a chop out this year I rather hope not, unless Marshall is actually injured, or so b...

Re: Side vs GWS

Jones stays for mine. There was a lot to like about how we did at the stoppages: we won the clearances, even though Nankervis was all over Marshall. Jones played his part in that. So I hope they don’t muck around sleigh it too much, just add Windy to the rotations. I’d love Byrnes to be dropped, but...

Re: An early season test for our coaches

If you have too many developing players in a team it isn’t going to win many games.

We already have Caminiti, Sharman, Owens, Phillipou, Wilson and Hastie, and presumably Windhager will come back in next week. And now you want to add Bonner, Schoenmaker and Garcia. It’s far too many!

Re: Match Thread vs Richmond

I know a few on here said how Cordy had a good game. I just want to say that our deep backs had a fantastic game. Boris Enright should be proud. Stocker played a great game of football. Sinclair looked right at home at half back. Battle was my best on ground taking crucial intercepts and that 3 sel...

Re: Match Thread vs Richmond

Well, somehow we won. Phillipou's development continues. He looks set to be top class. Wilson did some good things in Q4. Bonner lifted in this game. Some (including me) have been too quick to dismiss him. Steele, Hill, Wilkie, Battle, Sinclair and Marshall were all wonderful as they usually are. I ...

That's not the way Ross-coached teams usually do things. I suspect it will be an arm wrestle up to the end. I hope we can pin them down.

Re: Match Thread vs Richmond

Just as I observed in Q2, we dominated in open play in Q3. And, better still, we took some of our chances (but still missed a couple of relatively easy ones: I'm looking at you Bradley Hill). We're in with a chance but, as often seems to happen against us, Bolton is having a blinder. He could destro...

Re: Match Thread vs Richmond

I disagree with the negative assessments to a certain extent. Yes, we were poor in Q1, and yes we've allowed Martin and Bolton too much leeway. But we adjusted really well in Q2 and throttled the Tigers attack, while creating quite a few chances of our own. Like last week, our kicking for goal let u...
