Fascinating article. I found this part particularly interesting. One year after the sacking of coach Grant Thomas, the club is also divided over Ken Sheldon's position as head of the Saints' football department. Sheldon has been placed in charge of player contracts and that decision was a matter of ...

Some would say that 17th out of a field of 16 was a mighty generous assessment of the Flying Scotsman's capabilities.

But that would perhaps be unkind.

B Voss: he was out of form towards the end of this year, but he's experienced, and his brother is a powerful person in the AFL world who the Saints wouldn't particularly want to put off side (and don't discount the importance of this point). I reckon he'll be retained unless he decides to retire. O...

Sounds like it will go ahead ... It does rather, doesn't it? Well, anyway, it sounds as if it has been al put together with some planning: Burkey would add an enormous amount of credibility to the ticket. Whoever leaked this to the Herald-Sun - presumably one of the organisers - was also extremely ...

I think that the best way to judge the average age of a team is to look at its best 22-25 players, not to average out the ages of the entire list (which, given the turnover of players at most clubs these days, is unlikely to vary by all that much from club to club). That said, you are correct in poi...

i'm sure riewoldt could play there successfully, but imo he's too valuable doing what he's doing. Some might say he's also too valuable to be run into the ground each week as has happened this year. If he plays at FF, I reckon there'd be some possibility that he might keep going past the age of 28.

Out this season will be G, M clarke, Voss and Thommo retired. Delistings will be Raymond, Sweeney, Brooks and Ferg is in trouble. 7-8 out 2 promoted to main list. Not sure who they will be. One preseason pick and 4-5 draft picks. Fascinating info, if correct (and it usually is from this source). I ...

GT playing mcgough was infuriating. I was more infuriated by his failure to give McGough a go in 2006 after Lenny did his knee. McGough only ended up playing 12 AFL games for us out of a possible total of 47. He played pretty well at the Scorps in the second half of 2006 and never got a go in the s...

Gee, you guys are all overrating Adelaide a fair bit IMO!! How I reckon it all might go (if I've gotten the finals system right) is Geelong, Eagles, Adelaide and Sydney all win in week one. We can't stack it with midfielders ... we don't have any. This was certainly the case until a few weeks ago, but we have continued to play with IMO at least one midfielder too few while leaving the likes of Thommo, Armitage, Howard and McQualter and, in one game, Birss on the sidelines. Interesting debate: Moreover, what on earth was Lyon doing leaving Thommo on the bench for most of the second half when some players on the field were looking like they were about to drop? Yes, I know that yesterday wasn't a crucial game, but Lyon has done this before with Thommo and other players....

MB, I have no doubt Caro has been speaking to the same person that has been leaking information to her in the past and it is where Burkie's name has come from. I think all those posters who seem to want to delist half the team each season are going to be a tad disappointed. Thommo, M Clarke and Gehrig are gone and Harvey is no certainty to play on. I imagine that Raymond is a certainty to be cut, and Sweeney a strong chance. That's anywhere up to six gone ...
