Re: Lewis Pierce debut

Not sure about Holmes TBH, but I imagine he can go back to being a rookie. I think they might be reviewing the rookie process. This was posted an hour ago. Looks like the club is going to look at re-signing Longer: http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/afl-season-2016-st-kilda-in-talks-about-new-con...

Re: The Official Carlton Hater Thread

I have always despised them and always will. Long may they languish in the land of mediocrity.

There was a huge queue filled with their bandwagon jumping fans when I arrived at the ground. As others have said, thanks for the dosh.

Re: Lewis Pierce debut

I don't think we need all of them on the list, so one of them should probably move on at the end of the year. Holmes may be in danger for the reasons you listed. Longer was our number 1 ruckman in the second half of last year, so I wouldn't want to get rid of him unless we replaced him in the squad ...

Re: Thoughts on open roof?

I really liked it. The sun seemed to affect players a couple of times, but the open roof made for a great feeling. It's nice getting a win on a sunny day. I reckon it should be our call as the home team to have what we want as a home ground advantage. If we want it open, stuff what the AFL says. The...

Re: Freeman due back in the devs

A single senior game from him this year would be a huge win. I'm not expecting it, but if it happens then fantastic. The main thing is he gets his body right this year, so if it's still ok after pre-season he can get a lot of game time next year.

Re: 20 years ago. Trevor Barker. RIP

No, Port Arthur happened on the day of our next game after Trev died. v Footscray at Waverley? I remember hearing about it in the car park. I met Barks with my little brother after training at Moorabbin. He was very nice. Also went to his last game in 1989 v Hawthorn at Waverley (if my memory is ac...

Wasn't going to say anything, but it's driving me crazy - the guy who went to Carlton is Craig Devonport, not Davenport.

Re: Saints versus Sydney 1994

It was a vicious, vicious headbutt. I'm not sure if Plugger ever forgave Caven for that.

Brilliant comeback in that game. I was playing soccer at the time, so unfortunately didn't get to see it live.

Re: Seb ross height?

I've got a St Kilda poster up here and Ross is standing next to Acres, who is slightly taller than him. The St Kilda site has Acres at 190cm. Billings is on the other side of him and is a bit smaller. He's listed at 184cm.

How many years has he been on the list again? Four or five? He's had awful luck. I hope he manages to snag a first team spot one day.

We played two quarters and they played three, yet we could potentially have won it if not for some terrible turnovers. Their fans won't have gone home beaming either.

Re: VFL Rd 14 Sandringham Vs Werribee

I got there at quarter time and saw Wright leave with a bandage over one of his eyes. Did he cop an elbow or something?

It was a tight contest all the way through, so was a good win, especially given it was away. Richo was there watching.

I was at: R22, 2005: 139 points over Brisbane at Docklands - I was there as part of a mate's bucks. He was a Fitzroy fan, so not too happy. Milne was on fire and could not miss. Darryl White played his last game. R7, 1991: 131 points over Adelaide at Moorabbin - this is in my top 5 games. Winmar ret...

Schneids definitely. The young guys usually drop off, and smaller players like Lonie will learn a lot about being an intelligent footballer by being on the field with him.

Re: Billy Longer

It was interesting to see Delaney give him a spray against the Bulldogs in the third quarter after allowing his opponent to take a mark on the line. We've been doing pretty well in the hitouts this year compared to some other years, but I haven't looked at who's winning them. Hickey? Can't hurt to g...

Re: Harvey vs Williams

I always looked upon Williams as a true centreman. Harves was more of the ruck rover/rover type. I have never worked out the difference. Certainly not in the last 20 years. When I was growing up there would be a ruck rover, rover and centre. Now they're all just midfielders. Who are the "utili...

Re: Top AFL prospect Jacob Weitering

It'd be interesting for a key defender to go so high. Doesn't sound like he's your average key defender though. Will keep an eye out for his name through the year. Intresting also re Aish. Prior to that draft (2012?) people were saying that he'd be a risky pick, because there would be a reasonable c...

Re: A theory on Longer

I thought it was 50/50 at the time, but once we got Goddard I didn't look back. Given we have other ruckmen (albeit none with quite the same forward potential) and really needed to draft a key backman, it seems at this stage to have worked out really well.
