Re: Match Thread: Saints vs Hawks
So many players just didn't look switched on. Flat footed, tentative, waiting for things to happen. No on field leadership. Steele is a good player but fails in that area. The problem being is that he is indecisive with ball in hand, and he's the one who should be leading the way in the style of pla...

Re: Match Thread: Saints vs Hawks
Yes Marshall hacked the ball out of stoppages and none of our players upfield thought to play in front of their opponents. I mean...it's not bloody hard to figure out. They know Marshall does it, but they still sit back on their damn heels and let the defenders run on the ball!!!

Re: Match Thread: Saints vs Hawks
Stodgy midfield. It's the same old story. The only player we can count on to win a clearance is Marshall. You see the way Newcombe attacks the clearances with speed, aggression and energy. Our guys are tentative and flat footed. I've said it many times and I'll say it again. We will NEVER be a top 4...

Re: Ins and Outs
Yep, Iv'e seen opponents run past him and he hasn't done what he should have. He's unlikely to get promoted the senior team unless he improves in that area. The thing is, it's something that can be fixed

Re: Ins and Outs
Batchelor, in his review of last Sunday's Sandringham game, wrote that Schoenmaker needed to work on his physicality. That tells me he's not tackling with enough intent and not being hard enough in the air when contesting. I've seen a few Sandy games and I think that's where he needs to improve. He'...

No one should doubt his attack on the contest. Some of his work in congestion is outstanding

Re: Hunter Clark
As for comments about the shape of his body, did you ever see Matthew Lappin play? That skinny Kade Simpson went tokay for 342 games. Chunky Dane Swan went okay, too.

Re: Hunter Clark
Wow....nice. So, when Robert Harvey was suffering his multiple hamstring strains in the middle of his career, I suppose we should have dumped him. I suppose we should dump Max King, too. And that Liam Henry. Tore his hamstring in his second game. Let's get rid of him. Clearly hadn't prepared himself...

Re: Sandringham V North Melbourne
He doesn't attack contests with the same vigour as some others. He's a lead up forward who is very good at for finding space and timing his leads.
The problem is his intensity

Re: Players who can land a set shot
Higgins and King are 50/50 bets even when 30m out directly in front
The only players I have a lot of faith with when going for set shots are Sharman, Butler, Wood, Cordy, and Sinclair
I cover my eyes when King, Owens, and Higgins are lining up

Re: Byrnes, Bonner Not up to it..
The last few weeks have been disappointing from Byrnes. Struggles to find the ball and his disposal has been rushed, which suggests he's down on confidence. Once Clark, Dow, and Henry come in he'll be back at Sandy. I really like his workmate and attitude and there's no doubt he gives it his all, bu...

Re: Mattaes Phillipou
Petracca averaged about 12 possessions in his first 30 games.
So did Brendan Goddard. So did Lenny Hayes
Why feel the need to kick a young guy who's just starting out in his career.
Poor form

Re: Team v Roos
Sharman has put in some poor efforts recently. Not surprised he's been dropped. Hayes will give us the vigorous contest that Sharman doesn't. Caminiti a bit stiff, but that shoulder of his may be hindering him a bit. Nice to see Angus Hastie on a wing. Clearly the coaches like what they've seen. We ...

Recruiting is number one. Recruit poorly and you end up a persistent cellar dweller or scratching around the middle ground. We have a highly competent coaching panel We have recently recruited well We have appointed a recruiting manager with excellent credentials and an impressive record We've sorte...

Re: Higgins Alir incident
Crouch gets one week for nearly breaking a player's neck Butters gets off for running past the ball and bumping a player front on in the head. Deemed to be trying to pick up the ball by Christian. Yeah, right. Charlie Cameron's suspension was thrown out because someone said he was a good bloke. Wow,...

Re: The Roar opinion piece
Yep. It's a hit piece. One thing you can count on from journos is exaggeration. A team wins by one point and they're superstars, they lose by one point and they're an abject failure. We're used to getting kicked like this, but it doesn't make it any less nauseating to read or listen to. 18 months ag...

Re: Durrrrrr Howard
200cm key defenders are hard to find and even average ones are worth having. Howard has played some solid football for us in the past and when it comes to one on one his record is good except for the heavy giants like Dixon and Hawkins. He is not strongly built and that's a pity. I think the issue m...

Re: Dual narrative
Getting Simon Dalrymple to the club surely means we are more draft focused than trade focused. I can't see any evidence of a genuine rebuild from 2012 to 2022, just a series of ill conceived moves, third rate recruitment, and failed development. Our recruitment strategy is different this time. Inste...

Re: Dual narrative
A lot of players these days play until they're 33 or 34, so the 28 year olds could play another 5 years, maybe 6. Our youngsters need two more seasons to get to being consistent footballers with mature bodies. It's a a bit of a tightrope we're on. Let's look at a team of players currently aged 25 or...
