I didn't think Newnes was too special this afternoon... been okay earlier this year, but there's still a lot of younger guys ahead of him including Dunell I reckon.
Cripps was great today though, and pretty much every game he's played he's contributed. Really happy about his chances.

We could play a team of 11 and still thump them. Not a chance of losing to GWS this week.skeptic wrote:Losing to GWS is the provebial kiss of death for coaches - for a 1st year coach... will put a lot of pressure on himself if that happens

I would not like to see a team try and lose. I would be disgusted to see that. Given there's nothing to play for this season now, I don't see any issue with playing the kids though and giving the experienced players an extended pre-season.

No upcoming superstars of Riewoldt/Hayes/Goddards level. And you need guys of that quality to attempt winning flags. That's exactly right. You just knew Riewoldt, Dal Santo, Goddard, etc would be top shelf when they started out. We've got some promising players starting out now, but none that you j...

It's probably to throw a bone to the the newspaper journalists, considering virtually everything else is covered exclusively on TV and radio.

Yeah, I'm feeling it too. There was a sense of finality with the loss yesterday; the end of an era.

We need an emphasis on kicking
Since the Lyon era, our development all seems to have been focussed on players who can perform a role, or can apply defensive pressure. A great strategy for its time - it almost got us there. The time has passed.

Re: Haven't felt this bad since the Grand Final losses
The era was over the moment the siren sounded GF1 2010. It has taken some of you two years to work that out? Yes, we knew it, as did our coach at the time, and most of our elite players. On the other hand, running up the white flag is not what the game is about. Alas, it will be at least a decade b...

But knowing our luck they'll make an example out of him while the likes of Franklin continue on their merry way with their natural arc, etc.

Re: Joel Tippett
Not too sure to be honest. He was on Gold Coasts list last year and they cut him but kept Josh Fraser. Not a good sign. Obviously players can improve but he has now been cut off two AFL lists. Never a good sign when a player has been delisted IMO. Much prefer to draft and develop fresh talent... an...

Re: Pelchen states 5-6 ruckmen...
I dont care what people say. Ben McEvoy is not a ruckman. Hopeless again as he usually is against top opposition. I know people love him and so do I, but, compare him to other top ruckman, he doesnt come close. Play him at full forward and sorry, time to get rid of Koz. I wish he was better in the ...

Whats worse, no finals for atlast 3-5 years. I have always maintained that our 2013 team would be better than our 2012 one. Enough of our younger players will have come one...and another pre-season will greatly benefit the likes of Siposs, Dunnell etc. Kois should only paly next year if we have mos...

I think Saad is great. It's been so long since we've had a new draftee just walk into the team and fit in at AFL level. Onwards and upwards.

2009 was one of the worst moments of my life Tonight I expected us to lose. Anyone who held onto hopes of us still being a force need there head checked. Probably the silliest thread in ss history So you're saying there wasn't a part of you that thought - no matter how unrealistic the thought was -...

Just to clarify, obviously I don't think this loss was as bad as the Grand Final loss. But it certainly brought out those feelings of sadness again.

Why? well because in 09 I thought missed opportunity but the window was still open Tonight showed how wide the gap has grown between us and the top teams. Watching Geelong tear us a new one is like reliving 09 over and over and over again (swallowing razor blades) If it is the end of the era then l...

Re: changes for next week
this thread would be better titled "changes for next year" Yeah. Frankly, it sucks that we are playing GWS next week. There's nothing to play for any more so we might as well give all the kids a run and if a higher draft pick results then so be it. But we could play the entire Sandringham...

Haven't felt this bad since the Grand Final losses
It's probably the end of an era. Since 2004 we've been one of the top sides in the league and while we've been ordinary this year until tonight there was still a glimmer of hope that we could roll the dice one last time. Taking the rose coloured glasses off, we are a team on the decline. Our stars a...

Yeah, it was very good quarter but I think too much damage was done in the first half. We'd pretty much have to do the same in this quarter... and Geelong having two bad quarters in a row is unlikely.ShanghaiSaint wrote:don't know fellas i feel a repeat of pies game coming.. Sorry to be negative

Re: Saints v Cats Match Thread
Anyone ready to call it? This could be the end of an era, no more finals football for us but the real question is for how long? And I don't say that lightly; I genuinely believed we had it in us to get to the 2010 GF after losing in 2009 but I have a sinking feeling that it's going to be a while bef...
