Re: Riewoldt prefers "bad cop" coach
Not sure if this has been mentioned from last night's AFL360, where the discussion was about different styles of coaches, the calm, quiet "good cop" and the strong hard edge "bad cop". Nick Riewoldt said that he always preferred the "bad cop" coach as it drove him to p...

Re: Hannebury - Indefinite
Thank god Lethlean got him cheap. Would be interested to know which way his contract is loaded. We may have paid 1.6mill for this year. Cheap ? Surely you're joking. $800,000 a year for four years = 3.2 million for a broken down, injury riddled player way past his prime. St.kilda also forfeited the...

Re: Matt Parker!!!!!
He's been pumped up and I think it has affected him for sure. Looked like he expected it to happen. I agree with Acres. One of my favorites. Is a midfielder for mine... And needs to play there for his development. If the coaches don't see him as a mid then he is surplus to our requirements. IMO My ...

Re: Saints a genuine finals chance?
Last time we won our first 2 was 2014 and we won the wooden spoon. 3 games against non-finalists last year does not even begin to give you an accurate indication of whether or not there has been major improvement. We look a little better absolutely but it’s silly to start talking finals already Exa...

Re: Hard for Longer now!
He’s the only guy on the list that can play both positions and with Paddy down we’re short a key forward. Certainly this idea is a step up from a Bruce / Acres playing relief ruck.
Bingo, he's first half was good, then really tired!!!!!
I think just about everyone but our coaches c...

Re: Margin Rd 4
If its close, no matter who is in the lead in the last 5 minutes of the game Hawks will win by 3, by hook or crook (umpires). We have the pressure to retrieve the ball but we have the fumbling skills to enable the Hawks to close down on the contest. Its something they do better than most teams and g...

Re: Dylan Shiel
Something dodgy about the Bombers Shiel deal. Anyone have any inside info? Weren't we and the Kangas offering way over what the Bombers were? Yep we did but he made it clear years ago, in a quick interview after a game we lost to GWS (just after they were most teams bunnies - in Scott Watters days)...

Re: Sam Collins worth a shot
I think rather than look at trying to bring Tomlinson into the club and possibly having to part with Pick 7 or 8, we have a serious look at Sam Collins, who was recently delisted by Freo. Just reading this article, it seems to me that he wasn't given a go at Freo and could be a good player if given...

Re: Belief
I'm not getting carried away. And neither should anyone really. We have two wins. Infinitely better than no wins. I actually think we carried the form we displayed in the JLT into the regular season. This is an improved footy team on 2018 based on those four games. But we need to keep improving. So...

Re: Gresham and Billings
Your astute observation and football knowledge is unmatched on this forum Ted. After both games Richo has mentioned how having Kent and Parker has allowed Billings and Gresham to get up the field and gives us more flexibility (take that Weller). Against the bombers we should of won by 30-40 if goal...

Re: Parker and Wilkie
Kudos to the recruitment staff. We've dug a little and found some gold. Parker will tear a game apart. Sooner rather than later. Needs to work in consistantcy but we're only 2 games into his career. Ferocious at the ball and has sublime skills and pace. That hit on McGrath was huge. Wilkie is a ver...

Re: Are The New Rules In Our Favour?
What s***s me about these rule changes is that umpires still don't want to call frees. They just call potential injury moments, still don't provide frees for tackles with players swinging 360 degrees at times. When they don't call tackles unless the player hits the ground they the tackler is challen...

RIP Sidey. Great memories of your talent and toughness in a torrid time.
last time I have seen him was on the bleachers at a basketball match supporting his family, a son playing for Kalgoorlie at the time at Lakeside Lightning home court. He was very vocal then too.

"Mans gotta know his limitations".
At our club that's our understanding to cater for poor foot disposal.

Re: Lock for Bottom 4?
Why do ppl keep mentioning that Bruce and Roberton being back will be a giant help. We were dreadful from the getgo last year. Both players were playing at that time. Both are ok AFL footballers but certainly not the stars we're looking for to bring us fwd. It's the Clarkes, Coffields, Greshams, Bi...

For me 6th round in 1997 wasn't good. Lost to a poor Fremantle as I remember it but instigated the team meetings and vast improvement thereafter to gain top spot. We can only hope

Re: Ask the coach- questions?
Simple question . How do you get a team that finished in the bottom 4 to actually compete for a spot in the 8 with limited list change & some injury concerns before the season even starts. Rely on the return of all players who got injured sometime last year don't get injured this year and show ...

The response from Mrs Kellie Acres was "Blake is quite settled in Melbourne and happy with saints “ and about the newsagent:   I moved to Perth over 20 years ago. Didn't take long to work out that most Perth folk are the biggest gossipers in the country and will make things up and...

Re: Acres interest for home?
A required player at St Kilda Usage running the wings and rucking has not been beneficial to his development and impact on games I tend to agree. He has lots of potential but just needs to turn this into reality. I reckon he has quite good skills in close and has been able to open up opposition def...

simply no. I don't see anybody being a new stand out mid. There will be improvers but these will be in any side. Still lacking A graders IMO TO MAKE A SERIOUS DIFFERENCE TO LADDER POSITIONING END OF 2019.

I live in Perth and the newsagency owner knows Acres mum very well. She has indicated that Acres has made a comment at home about a return to WA. Not sure of the timing or even if this is just a rumour. Anyone heard of this?

Re: Billy Slater Tackling Practice
It will be interesting to see what impact Billy Slater will have on our tackling this season. I felt in several games last season a lot of our tackles were either pushed aside too easily or lacked intensity. My expectancy is that we should have some improvement in this area. My uncertainty will be ...

Re: Saints trade rating
Cannot be anything more than a C. We acquired the bear minimum of who we were expected to and lost the best ruckman on our list in the process. We go into the 2019 season with the weakest ruck stocks in the league, one of the worst midfields in the league and coach who has lost the support of his f...

Re: Is That All There Is?
Is this good enough? Why should we accept this? Two important and fundamental questions that should be asked of our footy club. So barring a miracle, what we will reap from the current trade and draft is the following: Dean Kent ( ex Melbourne), Dan Hannebery ( Swannies) and maybe, MAYBE, a guy no ...

We have no early picks so better to get someone already in the system with some proven ability than a pick 75 that never plays. you could easily mount an argument that 5 years and 42 games is a pick that hardly ever plays Leigh Montagna played around 50 games in his first five years. Absolutely tru...
