Re: If we play 2 games per year in NZ from 2015.....
I love the symbolism of an ANZAC day game in NZ and would be happy with a second game over there if it helps sure the club up financially. However I think the prospect of 10,000 members in NZ is a bit fanciful, even if we can sign up a few ex-pat Aussies over there. That said, there's nothing wrong ...

Re: Dempster as a Forward
He's such a reliable defender for us, so I don't see what we'd gain by trying to re-invent him as a forward so late in his career. Let him "captain" the back line and provide the example to the likes of Delaney, Bruce, Roberton and Shenton.

Re: We will be more competitive than people think
It's all about intensity. If we bring our Essendon game we might just take it up to them, but if we only bring our Adelaide game it could get very ugly very quickly. We need to play with our manic defensive pressure to harass the skilful Hawthorn players into errors. We'll also need to use the ball ...

Re: How do you rate players
The thing I would add to that method is the likelihood of getting from where they are now to what you think they should/could be. For example, you had McEvoy as a C+ with the potential to be an A, but how likely is he to realise that potential? I'd say it's unlikely so I'm also happy with that trad...

Re: Round 6 In Savage, Out Schneider
Savage in for Schneider is a like for like replacement and makes perfect sense given his good game in the VFL last week, particularly so if he's ticked the boxes he was asked to tick. The fact that he's a local NZ boy is a bonus. The only question mark is whether we should have picked Weller instead...

Haven't seen any footage of last night's game. Those who went/ watched can you give me any insight into how he will played for the rest of the season...vest candidate, regular, in /out of team., etc. As far as talent goes, he's clearly good enough to play every week. He'll set up goals with his pre...

It makes a difference when you have key defenders playing on their key forwards instead of half back flankers. Delaney and Bruce give us a much better structure down back.

Absolutely! I've been a big doubter on Rhys but he was fantastic tonight. He presented so well up the ground and marked strongly. The perfect counter point to Roo tonight.

Re: How do you define Toughness
In your example above I would think of Hamill and Hayes as "physically tough" and Harvey with his gut running as "mentally tough". Some players can obviously exhibit both of those forms of toughness. I don't know that I'd necessarily describe that ability to produce when the game...

Re: stronger or weaker
In reality it's really only Dal Santo, Milne and McEvoy we have to replace as the other omissions weren't really contributing last year. Essentially Savage replaces Dal and Longer replaces McEvoy, but perhaps a short term downgrade in each case. We don't really have a ready made replacement for Miln...

Re: AFL website round one sides
That forward line is too top heavy with Roo, Lee, Stanley and Gilbert plus Longer on the bench. I'd be picking another crumbling small forward (if we have one) instead of Stanley. Likewise in defense with Bruce, Delaney, Fisher and Dempster. Again I'd want to omit one of those talls and add some reb...

Re: Herald Sun
We traded an aging midfielder and a deficient ruckman for what will (hopefully) be a #1 ruckman, 2 dependable key defenders and a pacy wingman that could all have 8-10 year careers with the Saints. On top of that, we upgraded our 2nd and 3rd round picks to picks inside the top 20. At our stage in th...

Re: Official Trade Rumours thread (all in here please)
IMO if we dont get Josh Bruce the trade period will be a failure! Bruce is the type of key defender we would build our defence around for the next decade without him we will still struggle against the big forwards... Gotta be kidding me.... This guy is behind 5 or 6 other key defenders at GWS and h...

There was talk of the Hawks giving us 19 in exchange for either 24 or 25 as part of the Macca deal, but that hasn't been confirmed as yet and seems to have gone quiet.

Re: Official Trade Rumours thread (all in here please)
If you can trade Stanley for a first or second round pick or pick upgrade you take it. He's expendable. We'll likely have Hickey, Longer, Pierce, Holmes and maybe Jolly as ruckman and Riewoldt, Lee, White, Maister and a top KPP draft pick in 2014 as tall forwards. Why do we need Stanley? We don't! T...

Re: Billy Longer
need one of these players to be able to play at least 70% forward or it wont work. Hopefully one of either Hickey or Longer can do it. Why 70% up forward? Let's say they split the ruck work 50/50. That gives each one 50% in the ruck and 50% on the bench. Then let's say they can each play 20% up for...

Where do we sign? Pelchen would need about 0.3 seconds to think about that before accepting it.Eastern wrote:From Big Footy;

Landing Bruce early would take the pressure off selling the farm (and Dal) for Delaney.
