Look at the thread "Fill the holes" and you will see my thoughts on the spine - and the structure.

If you keep relying on such excuses - well, you'll never achieve anything. Injuries are a fact of life, and give opportunities. As Lyon said, we have 16 players you could envisage playing on the last Saturday in September. Without Gehrig, that number is now down to 15. And, without Harvey, 14. It is...

The question is Oh When the Saints, where did we finish this year and where did we finish last year?

And why?

The deficiencies have been around for the last few years, hence Lyon recruiting M. Clarke and Gardiner.

And if you do not have good rucks and a good spine, you fall by the way side like WB.

Oh when the Saints, we are in an era when flankers are 191cm - which is what Sam Fisher is. Did you see the way Richardson pushed him aside yesterday? Then just stood there and marked unopposed? If you have the build of Maguire you can get away with CHB at 190cm. But, as you can see, Maguire is no f...

Delist Brooks and Watts

We might as well also de-list Gardiner, Koschitzke and Rix as well. Because if we de-list these 3 as well we will have NO-ONE on our list over 196cm except for the Rookie from the 2006 Under-age team of 2nd Division EFL team, Scoresby. Let's face it, the up-shot from the Thomas years has left us dep...

Plugger66, I do not mean to be seen as attacking everything you say, because this is a conversation with the interests of St Kilda FC being a consistent power house in the AFL, and winning a share of premierships - something that has never happended in the past. But, because of our mid-field limitat...

Plugger66, you seem to look at the list by raising the name of one particular player over and over (6 games in 8 years over and over and over - and that ain't really the criteria anyway!). What we do know in terms of who is on our list is that we have 3 retirements, losing a full forward (who commen...

Pretty much agree Mad Saint Guy.

McQualter may also be under some pressure - but it is who you can get to replace them that is the major consideration.

You do not cut off your nose despite your face.

As I said on "Fill the holes" thread, Fiora could be our half-forward goal kicker given attention to a couple of areas.

One I highlighted was goal kicking, and I said he needed to be a five kick, five goals player.

Well, he got the five kicks!

And that is a start!!

Again I must have been at the wrong game because I thought Leigh Fisher had the job on Foley - and did very well to render him virtually inconsequental.

Fisher was in the centre square at the first bounce and followed Foley from then on.

So Plugger66, what form do we get seduced by? Form from the Under 18 TAC comp, or the Under 17's or Under19's in the SANFL? If form in under age competitions is the form we should take notice of, what has happened to Armitage taken at 9 and said mature enough in body for the AFL in 2007 - just for s...

I basically subscribe to the theory that if you are relying on players you are to draft you are behind the eight ball immediately. There are exceptions, but you do not base your foward projections on the exceptional. Leigh Fisher is adjusting to a mid-field/bench rotation - an adjustment from a defe...

Limited response?

Perhaps we could add the players from other clubs who would enhance our core?

The subject of the exercise is to show that our core is at the least adequate but the we need to address the calibre of our "bottom 6" versus the bottom six of the sides still in contention.

Fill in the holes

The absolute priority is the training regime to ensure we have our best players consistently on the park and that they are in pretty reasonable form. Not negotiable. Having only 23/24 players to pick from at certain stages of the season means season gone. We start with :- Gilbert xxxxxx L. Fisher S....

Plugger 66, if you want to visit the drug culture on Saturday nights and present that it has no impact on your work life because you are not tested then that is one thing. But how long you can keep responsible employment is another thing. And how long you can control your drug dependence to Saturday...

And to put your comments into context, Plugger66, Brooks is again named at CHF for Casey Scorpions. A position neither M. Clarke or Rix could play at that level. As Lyon has been quoted, Watts and Brooks sit behind Gehrig, Riewoldt and Kossy waiting their chance. Well, how many more years has Gehrig...

Not often I agree with Malthouse but, in this instance, I do agree with him in that what the precious AFL and its Players Association are throwing out is a camouflage instead of dealing with the big issue - substance abuse. And Gale says "This is so not the issue" and then concedes that he...

You would never see an identical photograph to this featuring either Rix or Clarke. The reason? Neither of them would be running with the ball in their hands - in fact, change that to having the ball in their hands at all. Not even at VFL level. Given Gardiner did not get on the park, that one photo...

I must admit to my conviction that the attack on the method by which the drug habit came to light is the insignificant issue - and by so far it is not funny. Simply, these people have a drug habit. You miss the point. The player must firstly extract the ball from the "spoil" contest, find space and then look for options. The options were not there, resulting in Dal Santo giving a lose, high and speculative handball backwards in the direction of Ferguson who was recovering from the hi...

Dan Warna, I was concentrating on the umpire who gave the decision to Ferguson for the front on spoil which took his arms out, so I was not really concentrating on Dal Santo actions, although I was aware. The ump was marking the mark and signalling for the ball to be returned to Ferguson and continu...
