Re: Team for Round 23 V Tigers
Lonie won't be traded or delisted. He is worth persisting with and is very young. Another couple years, he'll be afl quality. Like that small guy from freo, Neale or Ballantyne i can't remember which. The thing with Lonie is that he dominates the vfl. Almost untouchable in that comp. He dominates ga...

Re: Successful Season?
The thing with this season is that we have been our own worst enemy. We didn't turn up in round 1 or against Essendon. Both Geelong and Adelaide beat us fair and square. But in every other loss, we beat ourselves. There is so much room for improvement in how we play. If we can get that right (huge i...

Re: Who's the next club great?
Ace, we are not well drilled. This has been the most disappointing part of the season for me, the number of times I have been unable to ignore how very un-well drilled we are. I can honestly see Jade Gresham playing 300+ games. Now, he won't be in the greatest team of all time or anything like that,...

Re: Cutthroat Jake Facing "Striking" Charges
How about the 50 against Seb Ross in the first quarter.
I very seriously considered making that game the last game of AFL footy I watch. Just farcical. What a crap bunch of rules we have, devised and administered by a bunch of incompetent twerps.

Re: Number 8
Acres is going well. He has good size and can stand up in a tackle, but his hands are not yet good enough to be an inside midfielder. He doesn't do a quick release under pressure all that well and he still needs to learn how to play at stoppages, centre bounces in particular. What I really like is t...

Sinclair Dunstan Steven Acres Ross Membrey, Bruce and Roberton all good too. I didn't have Sinclair in my votes, but I can absolutely see why you would put him on top. Probably the smartest ball user on the team. He has had a fine year. I think he needs to get more of it, but one feels a sense of c...

Unimpressive first half.
We were pretty soft and also wasteful.
It's not good entertainment, footy like this. We really need to lift in intensity and start playing like a well drilled unit. Unimpressive footy

Gilbert has been absolutely excellent this season. Anyone who thinks to the contrary has not actually watched him play, certainly not live, and has chosen to remember only his mis-kicks. Which do exist, to be sure, but at the same time he is one of the better handballers in the team. Jack Steven's k...

Re: At what point do you cease supporting, and start resenti
I still support the Saints. For me, I'm powerless to do anything about the people that work there, so it is what it is. I don't love them, if they're crap I am happy to say so and certainly to let others say so, but I don't go out of my way to focus on that stuff. I feel a very strong sentimental pu...

Re: Ok, Serious Coaching Thread
I wonder if Richo says in the members only video exactly what he fully believes. To me, yesterday, we were thoroughly outcoached. Melbourne got the game on their terms and we were unable to stop them. In the 3rd, we won enough contested ball to get on top of the game. But when Melbourne had the ball...

Re: Seriously, were not ready for finals.
Maybe. But it's better to regret something you did than something you didn't do.
Everyone wanted to play finals this year and we fell short. That's not the end of the world, it doesn't necessitate wholesale changes in and of itself, but it is failure.

Let's be honest: effort gets you a pass mark in junior or local footy. This is the elite level. So much more is demanded and we fell way short.

Billings was poor. At least three contests near where i was watching where he went at half pace and Melbourne got the ball instead. He was flat as a tac. Dished the ball of instead of take responsibility and he was wasteful, especially in front of goal. Carlisle Roberton Longer Dunstan Sinclair Indi...

Dominated that quarter but missed far too many gettable set shots.

Re: Match Thread Saints vs Dees
That half was as disappointing as anything else this season. We put up no resistance and let Melbourne have the game completely on their terms. Let them walk out of half back with numbers and put the red carpet out for them across the whole centre square. Plus, we have basically no avenues to goal. ...

4 Positives & 4 Negatives v WCE
Positives: Sinclair: turned the game in the second quarter. Was damaging all day long but a 10 minute patch in the 2nd kept us in it. Mighty performance. Savage: has been great since he came back. A really complete game today from Savage. Still a required player White: absolute gun in the making. Re...

Re: Where Roo sits
I think trying to talk about who was the best player is never going to work, it's too subjective. However large or small the group of contenders is, Riewoldt would be in there. But, in terms of contribution to the club, Riewoldt's record is more or less objectively clear and in my view he is the num...

Greatest Saint of all time.
Irreplaceable, incomparable . Roo has been the foundation of the club since he was drafted. St Kilda has been his club during his time more than the same could be said of just about anybody ever.

Re: Lights burning late at the AFL tonight
The charge would be whatever Koby Stevens was suspended for. The MRP is like the umpires though (unique to AFL) in that they basically change the rules or emphasis on rules as the weeks pass. It's insane. No other sporting comp in the world has such a dynamic set of rules. The AFL loves it because i...

Re: Well done Saints on a 4 Quarter Crack!
I have to agree that a good effort is not enough. It was a very gutsy performance and if not for two minutes of leadership-less collapse at the end, would have been a stirring win. But as others have said, we are not a junior footy team. Even the most heroic of efforts is not enough. Should we have ...
