Re: Sinclair and Acres the drifters
I'd think Acres and Sinlcair, along with Billings and Clark, would be prime candidates to see a big improvement with a new coach. Richo seems determined to get sacked playing Dunstan, Ross and Steele in the middle for most of the game. Sinclair attended 10 centre bounces on the weekend and had the s...

Re: Please answer my questions
What happened to Logan Austin, whom we traded for at considerable expense? We traded a 2018 third round pick for Austin and a 2018 fourth round pick. The third ended up getting used as steak knives in the Polec trade and dissolved into draft points by North Melbourne. The fourth round pick was trad...

Re: It mostly comes down to our midfield
If we'd taken Smith, Richo would have him running off half back for Sandy. Had we taken Rozee, we'd probably be bombing the ball into him at FF or, more likely, Rozee would be running off half back for Sandy.

It's worth remembering that other AFL clubs chose to put Hugh Goddard and Mav Weller on their lists for this year.

Re: 5 Years of All Australian
Would a great coach turn any of our players into champions? A new coach might actually try. I find it astounding that after five and a half years, facing his coaching mortality, Richo still won't use Jack Billings in the centre. The development of all our early draft picks stalls, because they all ...

Re: I’ve just received word............
This week Richo overtakes Ross Lyon for third longest servest coach at the club. Next week he equals Grant Thomas as second longest serving coach. In two weeks, our longest serving coaches are: 1) Allan Jeans; 2) Alan Richardson. I find that absolutely staggering. EDIT: It occurred to me immediately...

Re: Gotta love the Blake
I'm sure Jason would be not at all comforted by the fact that the momentum he imagined was a trick of his brain, conflating independent events and assigning them a narrative. He probably shouldn't be comforted either. If the players dropped off at all after the ground invasion, that's their fault. P...

Re: Paddy out for the year
Like Wilkie, Parker, Tim Kelly etc. In addition to Wilkie, we have Steele, Marshall, Long, Austin, Paton, Parker, Sinclair, Hind and Young who were all eligible for at least one draft they didn't get selected in. A lot of those players wound up costing a lot more in terms of draft currency than the...

Re: Team Selection
Weekly reminder that Jack Newnes' consecutive matches streak is exactly as long as Richo's tenure as St Kilda senior coach. I wouldn't waste any mental energy hoping for Newnes to change drastically or for Richo to drop him. Neither is going to happen. We played Newnesy through career-worst form and...

Re: We Should've Gone Big on Jaeger
Didn’t he effectively cost Hawthorn Hunter Clark, Ben Long, Josh Battle and another first round pick to Gold Coast. And Coffield. Coff was taken with our own pick. Hawthorn traded Brad Hill to Freo for the Chris Mayne compensation pick, which they on-traded to us with their own second round pick an...

They're the same ones that yell 'kick it' as soon as a player gets there hands on the footy

Mav Kent - genius! The best comedy is based on truth  Can't claim it as my own. Overheard it from somebody during one of the first couple of games. So far, it fits perfectly. And I have no doubt that the new Mav is performing really strongly in inferential stats. Glad to have him locked down u...

Marshall looks like an oversized midfielder out there. Not a spindly unco pile of useless like most of the players we've rucked for the past 15 years.

Re: Marshall
But if Longer can’t take a contested mark in five games, he doesn’t look like the solution. Sure, Billy Longer may not have taken a contested mark in five games. He may have only taken five uncontested marks in those five games. He may have averaged 6 possessions and had only 2 more tackles for the...

Re: Positives
Plenty of positives. We won the clearances despite them having the dominant ruck. Ran a lot more people through the middle, ending up with 13 players with at least one clearance and 12 players with a centre clearance. Often times, last yea, we would run 4-6 guys through the centre. The change to thi...
