Kosi - Preseason - This is what he needs to do
Leg strength, core strength
He gets thrown off the ball too easily. Needs to get stronger or better at this.
Ground work
Endless hours of groundwork ahead. When the ball hits the deck, he can't be useless.
Second efforts
As above, this comes from fitness, fitness, fitness. To be able to pick yourself up again and again and again and hit the contest.
Massive Riewoldt-like tank
Run and run and run. Vomit then run more. Vomit...run. Chunk-blowing preseason.
What is there to lose? He'll be an old man soon. Not many more chances to be everything you can be.

Well ...
It all comes down to this. If he doesn't put in a massive pre-season it's more of the same for next year. The same weaknesses, the same disappointment.
It's all above the shoulders with this guy. All in the mind.
If the hard work isn't done, he's still going to beaten off the ball. When you keep getting beaten you drop your head, lose confidence, go in half hearted to contests, games are lost, you start getting those crappy injuries.

i dont think its his mind. hes just too immobile. he doesnt have the dna for modern footy. he has the turning circle of an airbus and the rebound on the ground of a pancake.ralphsmith wrote:Well ...

He has only been noticed as being crap at second efforts and slow because he is not holding his marks like he did last season.
He needs to ignore all the expectations and just get back to doing what feels right. He is an instinctive footballer and when given too much instruction doesn't compute quick enough.
He often looks better the further away from goals he is, because he is not running through scenarios in his head. Let him just go out and just play his best forward with Rooey trying to keep out of his way.he is actually a more reliable kick on goal.

Groundwork, second efforts and running are not Kosi's strengths and they never will be. He is a ruckman and moves like one. He is best when he takes his marks and kicks straight. Just gotta work on those things.ralphsmith wrote:Leg strength, core strength

Why do we consistently expect Kosi to produce what he clearly cannot? There seems to be a massive expectation he will become another Roo, or some similarly dominant player. He has shown us he cannot be that player.
Why not appreciate him for his strengths instead? He is a natural follower ... and the game has turned that position into redundancy over the past 10 years. It may now be coming back into vougue, as the second ruckman will more and more need forward and around the ground skills.
Kosi may never be a world beater, but he can play that game quite well.

If Kosi can kick 30-50 goals a year, he's done his bit.
Consequently he has done that the last 3 seasons.
I just got the feeling that that suspension for the bump in the first game threw him a little as it made him feel he couldn't throw his weight around.
Let's face it, 3 seasons ago, it would have been in the highlight reel as one of the best bumps of the season, but now, you get 3 weeks for a legal bump.

Except for the sanity nothing much has been lost.

He seems to be getting bigger every preseason, which is working against his mobility. No need for him to get any bigger than he is. Now he needs to work on core strengthening and gut running as you mentioned while possibly shedding a couple of kilos.
That way, he can still be competitive up forward and play a role in the ruck if needed. I actually think he does well in the ruck, except that he sometimes gets caught once the ball is contested on the ground or his tank is shot after covering half the ground.
There have been many instances where we've seen footage of Kosi working his ass off, but right now his body just can't handle that sort of work load. There's still hope for Kosi to turn it around and with all that said, that's still not his biggest problem. Confidence and self belief seems to be lacking. When he does something wrong, his body language is never right.
It just matters what the coaching and fitness staff see fit for him since, after all, we are just a bunch of forum posters

People have a short memory,
I remember Kossi in his first game this year I think it was, when he rucked then took a mark in the back line then cleaned up a player in the forward line as the ball was coming in and got reported for his effoerts all in about 1.5 minutes into the game.
He aint no Rooey but who is??????
Give the bloke a break and just let it go, he is a decent footballer end of story. Great clubman also.

Isn't it bizarre how two people can see things differently. I looked at him this year and thought he'd actually slimmed down!!sRaf wrote:He seems to be getting bigger every preseason, which is working against his mobility. "The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'
He did, he mentioned in an interview at the beginning of the year that he had shed something like 5kg to be more athletic.Thinline wrote:Isn't it bizarre how two people can see things differently. That is a significant difference, personally I'd like to see a little more bulk if he is going to ruck more next year, bashing and crashing is an important component of his game.
