......but to wait until the second last round of the season to play someone for the first time is perfectly fine

That's an interesting date to release the FIXture. That's Melbourne Cup weekend when most people are busy preparing for a 4 day weekend. Must be to lessen the impact !!saintbrat wrote:http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/ ... fault.aspxThe AFL will release the fixture on Friday, October 29.
floating final round continues.
Must say I think you are spot on......does anyone disagree?saint66au wrote:Its the changing nature of football that has the fans caring far more about where and when we play than who we play. It seems that club football depts are the only ones to really sweat over that.
The average fan I dont think would care if we played Collingwood 6 times in a season, so long as they were all in Melbourne on a Friday night . Ross and the footy dept would be less impressed

For me, a lot is about time slots......but I also like us to play home games against big drawing sides for the money side of things.
Exactly.Enrico_Misso wrote:For me the draw is, or should be all about fairness.
I know it is hard to get into your head but the pies played more top 8 sides twice than any other side in the 8. That to me is harder than playing at the G plenty of times.bigcarl wrote:Exactly.Enrico_Misso wrote:For me the draw is, or should be all about fairness.
The league needs to decide whether it is purely a profit-making, "sports entertainment" franchise such as WWE ... or whether it wants to be called a sport.
Too much is decided on the basis of what will make money ... or worse, what is popular or politic.
Collingwood's draw (in which it didn't play away from the MCG after July 8) was a bad joke, of which St Kilda was the butt.
What many people (not just saints fans) are upset about is that Collingwood have a contract with the MCG (with AFL blessing) that is not available to any other club and is outside the AFL's own rules. And, the AFL will try to have us all believe that THEY are the the sole deciders on who plays where ,and when.plugger66 wrote:I know it is hard to get into your head but the pies played more top 8 sides twice than any other side in the 8. What has that got to do with the fact that the pies played more top 8 sides twice than any other side in the top 8. I will ask you this. if you had a choice of playing Geelong, Collingwood or the WB twice but have 16 games at Etihad or playing thise sides once and 12 games at Etihad which one would you take. To me it is a no brainer you would pick the second option. As someone said early the important thing is how easy the draw is not when and where they are played.Eastern wrote:What many people (not just saints fans) are upset about is that Collingwood have a contract with the MCG (with AFL blessing) that is not available to any other club and is outside the AFL's own rules. I suspect that Melbourne & Richmond fans would be far more upset than us. Afterall, they have been bullied off their home ground by Collingwood, and to a lesser extent by Essendon & Carlton!!
The arguement was about how many games Collingwood play at the MCG. You were the one who changed it to who plays who !!plugger66 wrote:What has that got to do with the fact that the pies played more top 8 sides twice than any other side in the top 8. Not sure about that. Enrico was talking about who we play once. Anyway which scenario would you rather?Eastern wrote:The arguement was about how many games Collingwood play at the MCG. So would you rather play the pies, geelong and WB once and have 12 games at Etihad or play them twice and have 16 games there. by the way the Pies home groung is the G so not much you can do about it. They played there 16 times and we played our home ground 14 times. Are you honestly telling me 2 extra home games was why they won the flag?bigcarl wrote:plugger66 wrote:I know it is hard to get into your head but the pies played more top 8 sides twice than any other side in the 8. Not only do the filth get to play at their home ground every week, they get to practice tactics against top eight sides more often than anyone else.
All on their home ground.
No wonder they are premiers.
Level playing field?Yeah right.
I'm trying to work out whether you are the club censor or the AFL censor or both.
Playing their last 11 at their home ground certainly helped them.plugger66 wrote:So would you rather play the pies, geelong and WB once and have 12 games at Etihad or play them twice and have 16 games there. by the way the Pies home groung is the G so not much you can do about it. You refuse to look at who they played dont you because then you will have to acknowledge that their draw this year was harder than ours.bigcarl wrote:Playing their last 11 at their home ground certainly helped them.plugger66 wrote:So would you rather play the pies, geelong and WB once and have 12 games at Etihad or play them twice and have 16 games there. by the way the Pies home groung is the G so not much you can do about it. You cannot deny that is a significant advantage.
I know who they played. So what. We, too, are very difficult to beat on our home ground ... especially against top teams.plugger66 wrote:You refuse to look at who they played dont you because then you will have to acknowledge that their draw this year was harder than ours.bigcarl wrote:Playing their last 11 at their home ground certainly helped them.plugger66 wrote:So would you rather play the pies, geelong and WB once and have 12 games at Etihad or play them twice and have 16 games there. by the way the Pies home groung is the G so not much you can do about it. So you would rather play 16 games at home and all the top 4 twice than 12 games at home and only play one of the top 4 twice. Strange. I think most people would rather play as lttle of the top 4 as possible even if it is at your home ground.bigcarl wrote:I know who they played. So what. I agree with you Plugger, they did have a harder draw than us...to me it shows they were a fair way better than us. We do have a bit to work on in terms of style, attack & disposal to overtake them...that is more important to St Kilda than getting caught up in who plays who, how often and where.plugger66 wrote:You refuse to look at who they played dont you because then you will have to acknowledge that their draw this year was harder than ours.bigcarl wrote:Playing their last 11 at their home ground certainly helped them.plugger66 wrote:So would you rather play the pies, geelong and WB once and have 12 games at Etihad or play them twice and have 16 games there. by the way the Pies home groung is the G so not much you can do about it. Have you just a repeat buttom? How about answering the question or will that then make you realise that they had a harder draw this year. Also do you want them to move the finals seen as the Pies chose the G as their home ground.bigcarl wrote:plugger66 wrote:So you would rather play 16 games at home and all the top 4 twice than 12 games at home and only play one of the top 4 twice. Eight consecutive matches at your home ground leading into a finals series ... also at your home ground.
Even you would like that for St Kilda.
