It better be more than one.
The shock delisting of Eddy (and regardless of what anyone thinks of him his last 2 games were GFs so it was a shock) can only mean that there are going to be significant changes for 2011.
I think that will be involve changes to our game plan, and yes the introduction of more than 1 young player.
there is a picture of a guy on a website top line first from right, he's about 200cm tall with good hands and a reliable action, anyone know who that may be?

Looking at that picture he looks smaller than Jack Steven.

Almost every post here has focused on forwards performance and function. Not one post yet that talks about supply. Saintbob gets half a star for suggesting target selection, but the rest of you = FAIL.
This sets a correlation between Inside 50s and Goals. It is pretty much a constant, 1 goal per 4 inside 50s. Notice that St Kilda have been roughly at parity with Collingwood at this for the last two years.
Again this sets a correlation between Marks Inside 50 and Goals. You will score an average of a goal per inside 50 mark. If that mark doesn't result in a goal, general play will. By extension, it means Goals per Inside 50 roughly equals Marks per Inside 50. Again, St Kilda have been travelling reasonably well with this.
INSIDE 50s/4 == MARKS I50 == GOALS.
The lesson is Inside 50s are arguably the most important offensive statistic. They are the direct contributor to Marks Inside 50 and Goals.
It's close to useless arguing about who's going to kick straighter or take more contested marks.
How we get the ball into our forward 50 should have F*** all to do with our forwards, wouldn't you say?
Supply is the issue. Gameplan is the issue.
Where do we find four goals? Sixteen inside 50s. But I agree with plugger66 - I'd settle for two from eight.
"... You want to pose a threat to the opposition in as many ways as you can, both defensively and offensively. We've got a responsibility to explore all those possibilities - and we will."
I dont believe Koz and McQualter did their bit this year. Koz did carry an injury most of the year, but how many excuses do we make for him. I love the guy and dont believe we should get rid of him, but he needs another role and not ruck, maybe on the backline. As for McQualter, yes we definately should have delisted him. I am concerned about Stephens OP, those problems dont go away overnight. Bascially, the young kids need to step up or we need a clean out. We need more players to carry the load and not just rely on our guns, who we are quick to bag if they have one bad game.
Still need a full forward, and yes the supply suffers from crab football- sideways possesion footy which really gives the forwards little chance of setting themselves or running to where the ball is going. Looking at the Pies numerous times, it's pretty simple stuff, get the ball in the midfield and bang it straight to full-forward, and gives everyone a chance to get in the goal action.

Agree.
A lot of our lack of inside 50s is due to slow and hesitant movement of the ball elsewhere.
Move it quicker FFS. That is one of the most important things we need to work on IMO.

This strategy is also reflected in the Saints' Time In Possession figures, and arguably it doesn't assist either offense or defense. Starving the opposition does no good if you're not also setting up scoring opportunities - all you're doing is killing time.
And quite frankly, at 11th on the ladder this year for inside 50s, if this is what Ross Lyon continues to rely on for offensive strategy we're f~<{ed.

How's about usuing Joey more often as a small forward? He definitely knows where the goals.
But I agree with OP. We need more avenues to scoring goals. I'm also hoping for Tommy Walsh to bust onto the scene as another tall marking forward next to Roo.

Dont agree, not when it comes to left footers anyway. A huge number of letfies, present and past had/have no right foot. It's always amazed me how they get away with that huge turning arc on the left that they have obviously had since junior football, but they still get away with it at the top level. Think about the current day left footers, Josh Drummond and Simon Black from lions come straight to mind. Neither have right foot kicks at all, doesnt seem to hinder their game. Dont see Travis Cloke turn on his right foot much either.
For what its worth, I thought Gilbert was okay up forward. He was unpredictable with his movement, and he was lively. I hope Ross plays him up there a bit.

For some reason one-sided lefties always stand out more than one-sided righties
