Disappointed!!
I was disappointed to see a couple of our younger players out very late in
city last night. Do the players have a curfew?

How would that give the press any ammunition? Since when is being out a crime? It is far from uncommon for AFL players to be out late after games. I saw 2 players who both played in the NAB grandfinal out late (2-3am) on the Thursday night (Friday morning) before the grandfinal but it was fine as they weren't behaving like idiots. As long as they don't break the law or doing anything stupid then I have no issue at all with St Kilda players enjoying themselves.StPeter wrote:I think if I gave names and details the reaction might be more alarming but
I don't wish to give the press any more ammunition.

I don't know what to think.
Can you believe I actually read elsewhere that people are wondering, given Collingwood and St Kilda players tendency to be out enjoying themselves often, that perhaps the fact they have an outlet could even be a positive.
Not sure I agree with that, not sure what I think about it.
In most cases, I guess any player that crosses the line off field, it will eventually translate on field.
They should be mindful though that this isn't 2010 where some people almost had exclusive roles as we had no depth, people can and will pass anyone who isn't committed.

its hard
id guess that they are allowed a couple of drinks, but i see it as , well whats the point?
whats a couple of drinks going to do?...most times youd want to continue drinking wouldnt you??
and if not then why have the drinks in the first place...ok so it tastes nice, but so does non alcoholic drinks??
but you cant be a babysitter and then put bans on everything, it justs makes rebellion more common, so they get treated like adults and are allowed a social life.
which is fair enough
its up to the individual and what they enjoy.
myself, i wouldnt even think about going into a bar or even drinking
id want to devote everything to early starts and hard training, bascialy because if i went out a lot and hit the piss id never know that not doing that would give me an improvement
as long as it doesnt effect any player game day or during training, or anywhere an effort is involved then maybe theres no harm in it...and thats what the coaching staff and trainers are for.
each to there own i guess

It's difficult. Players are under enormous pressure to perform and are being well paid to do so, but being in their 20's, they are entitled to a social life.
The club will have rules in place and you would think that the players know the importance of keeping themselves in good nick.
I hear that Collingwood (and probably others) are inundated on Monday's with reports about perceived indiscretions of their players.
What do you do? Report them to the Club like school kids, say something at the time (might have an impact), or let those who are idiots, hang themselves? "Outing" them on web-sites may be going just too far, as the element of truth vs "perception" can often be a long way apart.

Lets make a few more excuses for these precious boys...
FFS.....if i had a afl future to gain, i would not drink.....period.
I would do whatever it took to become successful.....why does going out on a binge become an acceptable outlet for professional athletes.....they are obviously not serious....

So being 'spotted out late' has been magically morphed into 'binge drinking'.BigMart wrote:Lets make a few more excuses for these precious boys...

Have a chat to Hutchy. You're a shoe-in for a job.
"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'
What else were they doing at 3am.....drinking tea?
Your saying they weren't drinking.....how can you be anymore surer of that, than me guessing they were pissed....
I reckon if i wandered down king st at 3am.....9/10 people i saw would be pissed.....not our boys though, eh....ffs
Just going on the hour, football culture, boys in a group i would be confident in saying they were having a few....
But they need to, with the pressure cooker lives of having 6 figure pay packets before they were 25 and playing a sport for a living....
