Any Major changes for next round (v/s Bombers)
I think we lost becasue we did not kick straight. Even the last 2 kicks one by Archer & one by Milne gave us only 2 points. Had we kicked even one straight we would have won.
Having said that what changes do you expect?
Lenny, Peake ????

Considering how fast Essendon are and how they've run us ragged in recent games, I think it's fair to say the likes of Blake and Dempster would have to be in serious strife.
Blake hardly played last night and it's even harder to see him having a role to play next week. It may be time to play him in particular games only. Horses for courses. It's not appropriate to be carrying someone who doesn't have an obvious match up, who is also slow and has very average disposal, unless they're Superhuman in other areas, which I don't think Jason is.

APS is on the money. We must add speed for next week, or be run over -Blake & Baker looking slow. Gilbert to stay back (can't kick goals).
Others must play well at Sandy to have any hope. Stanley is not in great form and hasn't earned a spot. Archer in only his first game, seemed out of his depth, which is a worry if you make too many changes in one week. If others come in, they need to contribute.
p.s Gilbert not great last night, but ran himself ragged at one stage trying in the last quarter. I was close up and like many, he was completely stuffed.
It's very easy to look back, but in December, I commenrted :

Looking at last year's clangers and suggested player positional movement, there seems to be a need for a specialist Kicking Skills Coach, even if only for the pre-season. Alternatively, a lot more practice built into training programmes.
It's called "foot"ball. Any thoughts?

"Sammy G is struggling but absolutely busting his gut trying. Looks like hypervent! Some of his mates should take a leaf! EFFORT!!!"
Verbatim.
"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

Doesn't Schneider have another week to serve?
If Kosi is fit he comes in ahead of Archer to a) another target up forward and ruck with McEvoy.
Lenny is out, Stevens played a good game today so he probably should get a game.
I agree Dempster is out and maybe Lynch or Johnson based again on what I've read on today's Sandy game.

Except for the sanity nothing much has been lost.

I think we need to persist with Gilbert up forward, especially considering we aren't flag contenders anymore (imo).
All players named in the back 6 are capable of rebounding, with the exception of Baker. Gram needs to just lower his eyes, but generally speaking his kicking was improved on Friday.
Sippos is still very raw and it's highly unlikely that he'll be named, but I would like to see it as he adds the finish for goal that we lack. He flushed one from 55m out today in the VFL, straight through the middle. His technique is just about flawless.
Lynch and Smith were both alright today, and we need to get some games into them, just to keep them encouraged. If Ross continues to pick the same 22 after this start to the season heads will drop and the younger blokes will wonder why they aren't getting picked and maybe lose enthusiasm. It will be better in the long run, especially considering I picked this team with us being ruled out of the race for the flag.
Johnson has been included based on his game today, he looked very good and provides something different. He has good pace aswell.
I think picking a team similar to this will show the other players on the fringe that the opportunity is there if they can grab it, and I think it will still be a competitive side.

Would not elevate anyone at this stage.Iceman234 wrote:I don't see Kosi coming back in before the bye, may as well come back 100%.
Minimal changes as is Ross's M.O.
Out the obvious Hayes.
Elevated - Eddy and into the team as a proven hard nut and a favoured son.
Out Dempster - in Schneider.
When we do I'd put Walsh up before Eddy.
Neither are ready for elite AFL football at the moment, but the Australian will never be!

Watching the 2nds today was interesting as FORm must be a factor.
Lynch was closeto BOG across half back and perhaps he could come in and leave Gilbert forward.
Steven looked solid also. Clearly Essendon is Fitter than everyone else at this stage of the season , whcih is a concern as they are fitter and quicker. We need runners and make asub an impactplayer not like Jones who can only tag. At least Peake got 11 poss in last qtr week 1 as a sub
Out: Hayes , Archer( not good for this match up) , Blake, Dempster, Gamble
In: Lynch, Steven, A Smith Kosi, Scnieder

C: Monty, Goddard, Gram

After watching the Sandy game today I think the following guys haven't hurt their chances. . . .
Steven: good all day, kicked a couple of nice goals, should be pretty close for next week.
Lynch: pretty poised deep in defence, good skills.
Johnson: kicked 4 in the end, but was really impressive with his pressure in the forward half.
Siposs: could have a nice one on our hands here, superb set shot and pretty good skills.
Honourable mention to Al Smith, who was good in the first half but copped a knock on the knee.
Schneider will come straight in, so there might be one spot for a youngster.

Schneider got 2 weeks, according to Wikipedia, so is available this week, for those who were wondering, but how many warm-up games has he had, one? Not a great lead-up to the season. Maybe needs two weeks in the VFL (next week and when we have the bye) to get his match fitness up. Maybe Kosi could too, if he doesn't come straight in next week.
As for the others, if we don't pick Lynch this week we probably never will, as he looked good to me in the NAB Cup game against Geelong and looked really good again today for Sandy. The only thing against him is that he's not hugely fast and we'll need speed next week. Other than that, he's ready.
As some others have mentioned, he could play down back to help keep Gilbo forward. Some have criticised Tom's kicking, even today, but I didn't see him miss a target all day and his technique etc looked good. If nothing else, he'll probably be outstanding down back, and looks like he could play loose-man-in-defense in his sleep, although we're not short of options down there, obviously.
Jack to come in for whoever, as soon as he's match fit. Ditto Schneider.

i'd like to see Archer play a few more games before he's dumped...
not sure who to bring in for Hayes but i hope it's not McQualter or Eddy, a backwards selection if we pick either of those numpties.......
The list changes for 2025 have begun, always an interesting time for an avid supporter.
whereas bringing them in for one game, then dumping them when they do what was asked is excellent for morale.#1GILL wrote:OUT: Archer...
