You can't be serious about Dawson, one of their better players v WB, hardly lost a contest

Who did he play on??? :?

Played lose with the occassional run in the ruck.

The Jpod will throw him around like a ragdoll, ala Cloke!!!
Ist Qtr Dawson on Minson, with a short stint in the ruck
2nd Qtr Minson / Hudson who spent a short time in the forward line. He followed Hudson down to the wing & took a mark

3rd Qtr he was on Minson, when Minson went off, he was loose for a short time, so Saints took Simpkin off & it was Dawson/Jones
4th Qtr, he was off for part of it
No Minson didn't monster Dawson at all...Hard to pick up all the moves - but there is no chance of Dawson being dropped

Think Gwilt will go to Podsiadly and Dawson on Vardy/Ottens. I'm sure you know Geelong generally play 2 talls forward

Hold your ground

B: Steven Baker, James Gwilt, Zac Dawson,

HB: Jason Gram, Sam Gilbert, Sean Dempster

C: Brendon Goddard, David Armitage, Clinton Jones

HF: Nick Dal Santo, Nick Riewoldt, Adam Schneider

F: Stephen Milne, Tommy Walsh, Ryan Gamble

Foll: Ben McEvoy, Sam Fisher, Jack Steven

I/C: Farren Ray, Tom Ledger, Brett Peake, Aaron Siposs

Emg: Tom Simpkin, Dean Polo, Will Johnson

OUT: Tom Simpkin, Raphael Clarke

IN: Tommy Walsh, Aaron Siposs

==> Tommy Walsh told to tag Scarlett and is the relief ruckman
==> Armitage takes centre ball ups but swaps with Dal Santo immediately
==> Gram, Ray, Peake take turns as the running half back and wings
==> Siposs to come on to release Gamble or Walsh or Riewoldt elsewhere

To throw Geelong I wouldnt mind one of the rotating foward line set ups that was:

Armitage Walsh Schneider
Milne Siposs Gamble

Letting Riewoldt roam and tempt Scarlett to leave Siposs to act loose and get it into Siposs as the main target as much as possible.

Another foward set up would be:

Armitage Riewoldt Schneider
Milne Siposs Gamble

In this case Scarlett will want to go and help Taylor in Riewoldt and will not pay enough respect to Siposs.

Either set up may provide Siposs with opportunities and he only needs 5 to kick 4.

This set up also allows Walsh to ruck and McEvoy to get some pine time.

IN: Siposs, Lynch or Walsh
OUT: Gamble, Jones

Thought Raph did enough imo to keep his spot.
Wasn't that impressed with Gamble tbh... did a good tackle..

Am frustrated at Client Jones atm, especially his disposals, can't hit a hand ball or a kick, not offering enough imo to keep his spot. He's just not having much effect. He can tag, but thats about it atm, there's no offensive side that he use to have...

People bag Jones and Zac without actually watching their games. The guys could take three brownlow votes and the plebs on here would be asking for them to be dropped. Jones has been one of our best for about 5 rounds now, gets more run on the ball roles and carries from defence. he is the most underrated player at the saints at the moment. He will probably be played on a geelong mid but it will lose us an extra running player with Montagna already out. Gram and Jones are the last players we need to drop.

Clint Jones was named by many who know stuff about such things as best on ground and for mine he was well up there.

Gamble was a very creative presence up forward. Quick hands. Some good off the ball work. Good chase. Earned three shots on. Solid plus game.

Raph - yeah, probably agree there. Courageous as usual, but his good does get undone by the clumsy. Still, he probably did enough.

100% agree with all of what you said there, with Ledger to be the sub again.

If Raph plays again this week we are no chance, his decision making under pressure would have to be up there with the worst in the competition, not "Raph bashing" or anything, but truth hurts!

It won't happen, but these would be my changes

Out: Gram, Gamble, Simpkin
In: Polo, Johnson, Walsh

B: Clarke, Dawson, Baker
HB: Gilbert, Fisher, Gwilt
C: Goddard, Armitage, Jones
HF: Schneider, Riewoldt, Ray
F: Milne, Johnson, Ledger

Foll: McEvoy, Steven, Dal Santo
Int: Dempster, Walsh, Peake
Sub: Polo

Emg: Siposs, Lynch, Smith

Gram's effort on Friday was disgraceful. If he's not prepared to put his body on the line then he shouldn't be playing. Gamble's stats look ok but if you actually watch the game you'll see how many contests he stuffed up and how easily he loses his feet. Simpkin has some solid defensive skills but is scared with the ball; needs to work on his decision making. Johnson gets a gig on the back of excellent VFL form and can keep Scarlett accountable. Walsh in to provide backup ruck option and to take the resting ruckman in defence. Polo as the sub to come in late and provide some energy and aggression in the clearances.

Realistically I don't think we can win this game. In round one Geelong lost Selwood early and didn't have Chapman, while we had both Lenny and Joey. We would need all of our guns to fire and for Steven or Armo to put in a Lenny-like effort to have any chance.

Hope it doesnt happen. Gram was pretty good Friday as was Gamble but I suppose if you think a player is no good then you only look for bad in a player. Simpkin did Ok as well and should hold his spot but he may go if they want Walsh or Kosi in. Wouldnt think anyone else is a chance.

OUT: Ledger, Gamble, Simpkin
IN: Walsh, Lynch, Siposs

Ledger - 2 weeks as sub needs a full game
Gamble - Not quick enough, lack of chase.
Simpkin - No match up, Lynch more adaptable

Why does Ledger need a rest? I hope he plays a full game.

We HAVE to have another tall forward against Geelong.

I Watched Geelong against Hawthorn and the backline is best beaten when taylor and lonergan are man on man.

In the last quarter when Roughhead when off Buddy was double teamed and couldn't get near it.

We need 2 talls and then a mid sized (gamble?) that can take away the third man from the contests.

If we leave the forward line of last week then taylor would go to riewoldt, lonergan to gamble and mackie, scarlett would run a muck with smaller opponents. riewoldt would be double or tripple teamed and gamble would be beaten.

The Cats have some big bodies and we lack one or too.

Simpkin for Walsh would look to be a logical upgrade....as he can play back, forward...and spell Ben in the ruck.

Johnno would be an alternative too.

I have a feeling that RL's main team includes McQualter & Gram and if those two come up to whatever RL requires, they will get a gig over the newbies, who have shown us some great signs for the future.

Lynch for Simpkins

Lynch would have played except for finger and played well first game back.
Walsh for Gamble maybe.

Others deserve to keep spots.
