Is size important?

Post: # 1107161Post PJ »

No this is not a sexual pun.

To look at our team we have some seriously skinny dudes.

Last night against westco we looked undersized and yes we fought it out but we need IMO some more muscle and height.

Ray, Dawson & Gamble all look undernourished.

Does anyone else think if we are to have an impact we need some grunt?

We could certainly do with a big unit forward who can hold his place in a marking contest and use his body well and who can either mark or bring the ball to ground. (... and kick straight)

Just allows you the luxury of being able to bang it in quickly to a contest rather than try to pinpoint little passes all the time.

So size matters structurally. Hopefully big Tommy Walsh gets a go some time soon as he has that type of build.

The Eagles are going to be an outstanding team over the next few years with monsters like Naitainu and Cox.

We found it nearly impossible to get it out of their forward line in the third quarter with them patrolling a kick behind the play.

I can't ever remember a West Coast team with UNmuscly dudes. They are seriously large units the Eagles. Have been to Perth a few times this year for work and that's coincided with Eagles games. I was amazed at how musclebound the likes of Glass, Hurn, Lynch, Embley are. Seriously big, strong looking fellas.

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

I think the team is delivering on performance but don't be surprised if we are a little lame next friday with the impact that saturday had on us and a 6 day turn around.

Archer and Walsh are both a similar size and would give us something if only an intimidatory presence in the forward line. Archer started well but Tommy's form is more consistent and appears from reports to be a much higher standard.
