T Hawkins 10 games 8 goals. R Gamble 8 games 11 goals
2011 stats obviously.
Would Cats fans care?
And if Gamble can maintain his recent form, was he worth pick 90?

I reckon he has already been well worth pick 90. Anything else we get out of him is just a massive bonus. Kicked more goals then some of our established forwards.InkerSaint wrote:2011 stats obviously.

Put it this way if he was a kid and he had picked them at pick 90 and he has done as much as Vegas everyone would be saying how great the kid will be...

definitely worth 90. what is 90? 90 is nothing. So getting a single kick in oe game is already a bonus with pick 90. i have no problem using late pics on guys like gamble on polo. just dont use a top 20.InkerSaint wrote:2011 stats obviously.

as for the tomahawk. mates who are cats fans dont rate him at all. hes certainly surplus to their requirements for 2012. will be looking for a new home. but i dont think they pine for gamble either. i think they have moved on from both already.

Gamble has definately made an impact already even from the perspective that players don't automatically go for Roo. He can't sustain being a key option tho and needs another big forward. As the 3rd forward option he's coming along well.
I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

I want him to do some weights.
He is a serious wuss.
Skilful and creative though. Handy for a nothing pick.

Gingernomia.
Call it what you will. It's a cruel and debilitating affliction.

I think his second efforts are becoming more consistent too. He got run down on Saturday and dispossessed, still tried to get a boot to the ball and went for a tackle as soon as he was back on his feet. Nothing half-hearted about his efforts. It was 'pleasing'
I should have added in the OP the comparison was provoked by Robbo's Tackle article which gave up a few column inches on Hawkins this week. In a way Hawkins is even more prone to slipping in and out of games, and I appreciate they are different player types yet no comment anywhere despite the fact that on a goals per game average Gamble would be in the Cats' top 5. (Hawkins is 15.)
With a bit of confidence and cohesion restored in the playing group, I can see the improved ball supply revealing Gamble to be a very handy player.

The selection "strategy" at pick 90 was spot on. We needed someone that could play forward and take a mark or two. Whether Gamble could fit in and contribute was the big question.
I think that this is where good coaching support has come in and should be recognised.
As each game goes by, Gamble is looking and playing far more confidently, which is being rewarded. At Geelong, he was largely left to his own resources and became a plodder. Like many others, I questioned his early form, but it's good to see his improvement.

Why is it always attitude when players dont make it? It really puzzles me.
Noted they are completely different players... But Tom Hawkins is an average big key position player while Gamble is an average small-med forward.
Tom is younger, and I believe more talented.
it's those horizontal stripes of the cats jumper, they add 10 kg. chapman is actually only 80 kg.HSVKing wrote:Myself and some mates were wondering how he turned into a skinny redhead kid over the off-season. We swear he was bigger!Thinline wrote:I want him to do some weights.

I saw a Cats fan mate today who talked up Gamble after we snared him, he was bragging about his skill at picking untested players. He sees him as a perfect fit at the Saints and reckons that the Cats had to let go of a few middle tier players to free up space and if Ablett had let them know earlier guys like gamble and Laidlaw etc. might still be there. He is well worth pick 90 traditionally a pass on draft day. He works hard, just seems to be a little relaxed looking, if he played angry we would all love him and totally agree if we got his results from a home grown player we would be talking him up.

In a nutshell. He will be fine and have a good career. Usually Geelong kick plenty of goals from the midfield and key forwards are often ignored for smaller targets or players on the run.SainterK wrote:Hawkins isn't going anywhere, they have a veteran forward who isn't even playing, and another who is nearly 30.
