Why not Goddard to the forward line?

Post: # 1118158Post The Sainter »

Why not try him on the forward line? Give him licence to go anywhere he likes on it. At least he would hit the forwards with straight low passes plus he would take pressure off Roo, also he can compete anytime in the air with whoever they put on him. He is hard at the player and is a very reliable kick at goal. Surely his role on the back line could easily be taken over by someone who is a reliable kick to position, maybe even trying say Walsh there could be a bold move.
We may well make the finals but certainly cannot win it unless we start trying a few different moves. Gilbert and Jones certainly can get the ball but their disposal to the forwards is so second rate most times. At least if Goddard gets his hands on the ball say at least 15 times on the forward line good things will happen
Clarke also could be another surprise move to the forward line as he looked so good there in the air and on the ground a few weeks ago.

Not to start with. Need him thru midfield/HB. See how the game unfolds.

We play our best when he's at hb controls the game back there better then anyone in the league when him and fish are back we are really hard to beat. IMO..

Can't afford to lose him elsewhere, presumably.

Let's hope the skipper can find his kicking boots.

I think it's worth pushing him up there at times. It worked last year v WCE. He can certainly take a grab and kick it through the big sticks.

4 goals in a quarter against WC? certainly worth a look if we get down, or even just for the first 15 mins.

Must play in the best position for our team and that is a roaming HB. He sets up so much play. Pretty hard from the forward line. He can drift forward occasionly but cant start there especially as one of our best kicks from HB is out for the year. And at the moment goal kicking hasnt been a problem. Anyway for us to win this week we need a low scoring game. We cant beat the Pies in a high scoring encounter.

We need to hold them to a low score. Nothing to say that we can't kick a high one.

Lets be honest. If we win it will be very close. Anyway to keep them to a low score requires BJ to play across HF were he sets up our play.

think the balance is about right at the moment. see him go forward only occassionaly - it's a real good weapon to have up our sleeve.

Because we set up so defensively

Post: # 1118228Post WinnersOnly »

Because we set up so defensively we cant afford to BJ start forward. He is the only player who can set us up by foot going out of defense. We are 13th in the comp for clearances & 9th from scores from clearances so RL backs our defense to win the ball & attack from there.

So this is how defensively minded our coaching staff are. We basically concede we wont beat the opposition in clearances and our main form of scoring is attack from defense with BJ !

I would like to see us start the first quarter with a few surprise positioning moves, bur gee, moving BJ away from HB may be too big of a risk. We can't afford to let the Pies get the drop on us early.

I say start him this week where he inished last week. In the guts.

I think between now and the finals we are going to see more of our A-Team in the middle again.

He can get towelled up across hb....as he sags off his direct opponent....he is often drawn to the footy, and loses his man.....typical trait of a natural mid, playing back...

BJ is the master of most thing football......except accountability...and not the best at clearance work....

A dominant loose man in defense.......his best position is a floating back wingman IMO....but fwd of the centre...
1 of his kicks is worth 2 out of defense.....

Yeah! :D Something right out of left field! Line up Roo at CHB while we're at it! Kosi at full forward and Sam Fisher at CHF. Lets see how "supercoach" deals with THAT

Bj actually DID start in the forward line last week vs Freo. He was there for about ten minutes and did nothing, so was moved back to sweeper.

There is only one BJ, he is clearly the best player in the team by a long shot at the moment.

Play him on the ball or just behind.

If they tag him, the boss will move him one out at FF or on the HFF. Goddard has a tank as big as riewoldts these days and its impossible to run with him all day.

I have a feeling Kosi will play at ff as well leaving riewoldt to run like the wind all over the oval.

I would have thought clearly our best player at the moment is Dal and he is also clearly our most important player. BJ is a great kick and sets up plenty of play but doesnt win anywhere near as much of his own ball as Dal who also sets a huge amount of play.

If he Chris Crosses the oval, he may Ride Like The Wind as well

No doubt he'd be a wonderful FF or CHF. His kicking for goal is one massive factor in his favour.

But Ross has shown over the years that it is unlikely to happen.

Just hope the skipper can get on top of his mental demons and kicking "yips".
