I've always liked GT. He was a good attacking coach and the core playing group is still his so to speak. I wouldn't have a problem with this although I think it is very unlikely.

GT was tactically inept hence why we threw away home advantage during late 2004 and then let Swans smash us with no change in strategy in last qtr 2005. Game past him by.

GT couldn't coach an AFL team now. His style is outdated.

Somewhere in between Lyon and GT would be perfect.

I'd take back GT if Ross is gone.

The thing with GT is that you know he does it for the club, and he has the heart to stand by the club and its players. To be honest, he was a great coach in which the transition from 03 to 04 was amazing and to be honest, very unlucky not to win against Port at home.

Grant would need some sort of defensive style to his game though, I'm sure the assistant coaches would fill in the gaps.

Just get him back at the club imo.

Very disappointed if Ross has quit for money to go to Freo. He needs to come out and explain why, guess that will come out in due course.

To quote Aaron Hamill:

"We had a far better list in 2004 and 2005 than the Saints do now, but we didn't get the job done."

To quote Grant Thomas:

"I had my time, I had my chance and my crack at it"

Don't turn to the past. We may as well appoint Stan Alves again.

GT is a player's coach. Unfortunately he lacks the strategies on game day against the better coached teams. Won't happen.

Only if finishing the job involves suffocating Lyon with his fat arse.

Yeah bring back GT, so he can finish what he started. F**k us completely. Now would be the perfect time for that.

I don't remember a flag and "traitor" is an interesting choice of words.

Depends what job you mean....

Exactly 12 month ago we were booked into the prelim with a week off, and heading towards a GF... now we're on the brink.

We need to get this next move right.

Might have had it right before Lyon was appointed. I reckon GT built this team and was denied the chance to take it to glory.

OP - quit the hysterical cr*p.

GT - not a potential current coach

I am. We need a rebuild-type coach and I can't think of a better man for the job.

Yes, but Grant should not of been sacked so to speak, it was just Butters ego over a different matter altogether that got him removed.

Tbh, Grant built our core list imo, if he's not our main coach, at least put him as assistant coach for Harvs.

You know GT loves the saints, I could never see him leaving like RL has just done and in this kind of manner.

No problem with Grant being involved at the club.

However he does not have the tactical ability IMO to be in charge of football again.

No problem in some sort of management/guidance role, but not as the head coach IMO.

Well I for one liked Ross Lyons coaching style but never liked his after match interviews when he started to talk in riddles to avoid the clinical type questions.

Ross has now shown we he did the same when the coaching role was mentioned.

Grant's heart is also with St. Kilda. Sure he did have some outdated ideas in terms of emulating the Brisbane body shape and game style but would change that now.

Remember much of the success of clubs after 2004 were attributed to persistent stupid AFL rule changes to ruck contest, pack clearance rules, and the removal of key defensive techniques such as kicking out deliberately. All these enhanced teams with smaller bodies and more speed.

Several clubs who benefitted by these rule changes were; Carlton, Geelong & WCE, but others didnt including; Fremantle, Brisbane, Hawthorn and of course St Kilda).

Hawthorn and Collingwood have since adapted well to these changes and and were either proactive or fortunate with the team list recruitment to match the changes as they clearly have enahnced their game style with some twists. eg Shepherding the guy on the mark, the double forward press, the aggressive tackiling of players about to receive the ball. The penalty for this hasnt occurred by the umpire so its biased those who developed the speed to achieve this.

Whoever takes the role will now need to change something in teh playing style in teh club and will have to take out the crystal ball on potential future rule changes to make the best of it.

Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.

You need to protect the ball handler to increase posession efficiency
