Why?

Post: # 1142562Post Sainterman »

In all of this the thing I have struggled to understand the most is why Lyon would do things the way he has.

Could Ross have not first made an agreement with the Dockers (even signed a contract), then the Dockers could have sacked Harvey and said they would search for the best avaiable. Both parties could have waited a week or so and announced a deal. RL could have said circumstances had changed and it would have been a far more amicable scenario all round.

Why accept the deal the same day Harvey is sacked and then leave immediately? This has off sided many footy people who respect Harvey, St Kilda and it's supporters and the wider footy community.

Surely from a PR point of view all 3 parties would have benefitted by allowing some time for the dust to settle?

Maybe that is what happens when you go behind your managements back?

He would have had the $'s and the same outcome if he had waited a week or so, let the dust settle and left.

Now he will be remembered for his actions, and his integrity is forever tarnished. Seems silly to me and I just don't get it.

In a way I'm not certain he knew where all this was heading, I get the feeling that he told players "I'll see you next year" in good faith, thinking that he would probably see out 2012 with us and then maybe make his way to Freo. It just doesn't make sense to me that he would gather the players together and tell them a lie like that, it was of no benefit for anyone.

Maybe Freo were genuinely asking him about his availability for 2013, Ross was interested but couldn't talk properly until our season was finished, he then probably realised that serving out the last year with us wouldn't help anyone and decided that exercising his right to leave sooner would be better.

I know we all want to hate him but it just doesn't make sense to me that he would tell all the players that he would see them next year unless he thought so at the time.

On another thread. Offered him more money than he could refuse. $1.5 a year with extras. In charge of a football club with lots of money and resources. That's why. Would turn most heads.

Particularly one with no loyalty. Remember when Freo offered Stewie Loewe a mountain of money. He stayed out of well-placed loyalty. Freo have always had money and ambition. They now also have a ruthless administration. Marriage made in heaven.

Lies either way. Surely u don't believe everything you heard today?

Just might have saved some public angst for the Saints, for Mark Harvey, and for the Dockers, whose admin will now live and die on the outcome of this deal with RL. Not to mention RL now has almost no integrity and his presser today showed exactly what the media think of him. How many times did loyalty and integrity get thrown at him?

Footy clubs are normally better at handling these types of situations, but I think RL has made a meal of it because he cut out the middle man, the guys who know how to spin things to make them more palatable.

I understand the reasons why he left but not the way he left.

Probably was speaking the truth a few days ago, and then got bowled over by how much money. Happens in business all the time. Probably happened pretty quickly.

Don't agree with it by the way. Think it underhanded and sneaky, but that's life.

You might be right Verdun, but gee, how average is that??

Funny how some people can just end up being something totally different to what you thought they were?

...And Freo probably pushed all the right buttons about control, no interference, resources ...blah blah blah....

They wanted him badly. Will probably bite them on the bum. If he doesn't do any good, they are stuck with each other.

Yeah, I agree absolutely. He was always a gun for hire. I heard some stories about when we got him. He's fairly cold and calculating. Top people in organisations often are.

I dont buy into the whole "Ill see you next year" thing. Where did that come from. It makes no sense. For a start there is player reviews. even for those that are staying on, training starts before next year.
