Johnny Member wrote:The only thing where we he appeared to give a reason for leaving, was when he really focussed on the point that he had asked fror a 4 year deal in April.
And that only found it's way to the table on Wednesday.
I think that is his official reason for leaving.
What the real reason is, well, I'd say the real reason for him leaving, was probably the same reason that a contract wasn't put on the table until Wednesday.
I don't think the club was totally happy and wanted some things to change. And he, either didn't want to change anything or knew he wasn't capable of it.
I'm wondering that myself.
Did the club not want everything to continue to be on his terms?

harvey - o'keefe - should we put sean on him?
ross - what?..sorry, my mind was elsewhere...do whatever, don't we have a system in place?
kingsley - ah ross, call on your mobile. from some rosich fellow. says it needs to be done by mid- sep, whatever that means.

harvey - ross, o'keefe? shall we put sean on him?
ross - aah...no!
makes you wonder if he deliberately didn't coach well.
may answer questions to why Walsh wasn't given a go, and we had Gardiner playing half a game then dropped against Mumford.
What I know know about Lyon wouldn't put it past him.
really would anyone be suprised ?
I'm pretty sure he threw that game. He was keen to get to his new club and collect his first pay check.
Disgusting low-life mercenary, he had zero care factor for the saints and our future.
If Lyon's contract had a clause which allowed him to leave at the end of this year he hasn't breached anything.
If he hasn't breached a contract, why all of the angst.
The bloke is entitled to make a business decision.
I hope there's no-one who said Scully's decision was ok who is now criticising RL (both decisions being fine in this new world of footy is a business first and last).
And another thing.......the need to use a basketball court as the press conference venue at seaford is an indictment on the place.
As I said a few years ago, the move to Seaford would correlate to a dropping down the ladder and much angst. Seaford has been partly responsible for the situation we found ourselves in this year.....the Frankston schoolgirl, the distance of the drive from Essendon, the inadequate facilties and the disaffection from players to name a few of the related factors.
I don't understand this Seaford thing...you want to play for the Saints, that's where you train. Don't like the trip, move nearby. Still don't like it, go play for Port Adelaide...then come back. Am I making this sound too simple?

You're missing the point. No one cares that he's left it's the manner in which he did so. He told the players and board literally days prior to leaving that he would be coaching the Saints in 2012. He also met with Freo before the season was finished with a final series coming up. He lied and showed no integrity.
Now that the dust has settled, and my anger has subsided, the overwhelming feeling I have is that we have lost a very good coach (the best the Saints have had in my lifetime), and I am envious of the Fremantle F.C.
Saints fans please have some faith. We selected a great coach 5 years ago, and we will select another great coach this time around.
Remember this, OUR players made Ross Lyon the coach he is today because they are the most mentally strong group of players in the AFL!!
I will look on with interest to see how effective Ross's game plan is on the big, wide-open spaces of Subiaco. But more importantly, I look through the Fremantle playing list, and I do not see the strength of leadership that he was privileged to have in Riewoldt & Hayes.
One day, he may even look back with enormous regret at his decision.

BUMP
Any Saints fan who still blindly loves Lyon needs to remember this moment.
Hope the Hawks thump the daylights out of these interlopers and their mercenary coach

They can even WATCH LIVE FOOTY!
As has been previously stated it was the manner in which ross left that was the problem. And I firmly believe after a conversation with the player who subsequently left to play for fremantle that the deal was done a long time before the end of the season. The conversation went as follows "funny thing was I was originally going to be drafted by fremantle and then hawthorn picked me up". Coincedence? Not sure. But as soon as it was announced that lyon was coaching fremantle it put a whole new spin on that conversation and the fact that both lyon and dawson decided to delay signing new contracts at the same time. And I really hope that the hawks smash freo today.
how dare you bump this and take my post out of context.
It was about the final game he coached for us. He was a great coach for us until that last game.
I really hope Freo wins to upset muppets like noddy.
get over yourself. You sound like a jilted lover
Lance or James??

Mate I think you should point out your massive conflict of interest here. Many longtime posters are well aware of your connection with the City of Casey...therefore making your sour grapes complaining about us not moving there irrelevant
Not sure why you have grabbed hold of a post from over two years ago, and made comments way out of context. My post two years ago was about Ross Lyon’s decision to depart St Kilda and the inadequateness of the Seaford facility. It had nothing to do with Casey.
As far as a conflict of interest goes, surely you jest? We are just a bunch of supporters making comments as we see fit. We aren’t involved in decisions of the Club, and can’t influence them. We have opinions, and are free to express them on this forum.
As a long-time poster, you would remember that a very long time ago I supported a move to Casey Fields. However, St Kilda determined to move to Frankston and Melbourne Football Club took the occupancy at Casey Fields. However, the Frankston deal turned sour (a lack of due diligence by the Club), and St Kilda explored an alternative at Seaford. At that time my opinion was that we should redevelop at Moorabbin rather than go to a wasteland in a residential area of Seaford. I expressed that view, and was shouted down by those who seem to blindly accept club positions. I suspect that there are some on here who are very, very close to the Club and closely reflect the views of the Club on this forum. And that’s ok too, because I’m sure they are Club supporters with an opinion to share.
If you think the decision to move to Seaford was well considered, I refer you to yesterday’s article in The Age about the departure of the CEO. It said (in part):
“(The Club) has moved from Moorabbin to Seaford but almost outgrown the new venue immediately”.
The reality is that the move to Seaford was a clanger for all sorts of reasons. In regard to the quote from the article, the new building was 20% smaller in size than the Club knew it needed at the time.
It’s a pity that the Club didn’t persevere with negotiations with Kingston at the time. At football clubs sometimes egos get in the way, and decisions are made that wouldn’t happen in the commercial world. There’s already a new Council at Kinston and, with the departure of some of the key opponents of the Saints, a lot more could have been achieved. We still have the lease for a couple more decades at Linton Street, and I hope that we can find a way to return there.
