ok the cash loss wasnt great but everyone knows the stadium deal at etihad stinks.
he negotiated with ross's management in good faith. a coach going behind his own mgt back is unprecedented in the afl since the manager system. noone could have possibly anticipated that.
Oh sure, all that stuff, but he presents badly on TV! :D

It certainly has me worried that after a sustained period of success, possibly the club's second greatest era and only falling short of the grand prize by our fingernails, that the club seems to be imploding and ripping apart at the seams.... It has me very concerned.

I will be renewing my membership as a sign of loyalty but I'm fearful that I might be one of only a handful left!

You can't help but wonder what the hell is going on down there....

There are plenty of other threads where this is analysed in excruciating detail but for a start:

He should have re-signed Lyon when he held the whip hand in discussions earlier in the year. He tried to save money, waited and lost.

We should not have signed Lyon to a contract that enabled him to give notice at any time.

We should actually have a stadium "deal" with Etihad. We do not have any deal at all as a matter of fact, we take what we are given. Essendon have far superior arrangements for the dubious glory of being the first to sign. As a result we are forced to live hand to mouth like North, the Dogs and Melbourne, relying on handouts to survive. As discussed elsewhere it'll be in the news in the coming days.

We should have retained the best fitness team in the comp and would have if they'd had any confidence at all in club management.

We might at least have included a coach on our panel to recruit a coach. We had formerly, with great effect, used Walls to assist in selecting Lyon.

As with any CEO in any business at his salary level taking responsibilty for errors, instead of hanging on at all costs and pretending that all adversity is just an act of God, at least would demonstrate integrity.

Well actually no. A fixed-term contract containing a notice period for its termination prior to the end of the term is not a fixed-term contract at all.

Wait for it though. He'll be announcing a triumph and spinning it in the next few days to equal his triumph of the coaching recruitment panel without a coach. We'll get a kick-back/handout from the AFL for losing squillions by being forced to play at Etihad.

It may even be nearly as much as two years of this dishonest superdud's salary.
EXACTLY!

Nettlefold said he expects Lyon's move to have no bearing on the club's prospects of retaining its key support staff.

"Dave Missen, our head of conditioning will be with the club for some time, he's contracted," Nettlefold said.

"The club from an organisational perspective is in great shape."
That was four days, FOUR DAYS before Misson left!

More spin, more absolute bullshyte to protect his own arse and massive salary!

Whoever believes anything this snakeoil merchant sprukes is a clueless buffoon.

On FC Nettlefold was rabbiting on about how Lyon is contracted until the end of 2012 and he fully expects he will be coaching us next year, just three days before he officially left!

Then the GET OUT CLAUSES were mentioned and he starts prattling on about "SPIRIT OF THE CONTRACT" as if that was suppose to mean something!

The true spirit of the contract was a board who insisted on inserting get out clauses providing no security at all for a brilliant coach that they inherited to begin with, which ended up being used by him to leave.

A complete **** up and now Missen has followed suit!

Mass player exodus coming soon!

Is this dud on around $800,000 a years?

Nettlefold must be sacked immediately!

would that have been when the club offered an extension of 2 years- despite the then current team position- taking him to 2014 (3 years in total)

and the former St kilda Coach said no lets think about it I'd like 3 years unconditional on top0 thats till 2015

( note 2 coaches in top 8, out of contract till this week for end of this year have only Signed for 2 years)

Pretty ironic given that, ultimately, when other clubs made no secret of their interest in him we were prepared to meet him on his terms.

As for the top eight coaches who have signed for two years, is there any Carlton supporter who doesn't know that Brett Ratten's tenure hangs by a silken thread? When Fremantle and Melbourne sought an experienced top line coach did they seek him out? He has Malthouse and Roos breathing down his neck and the club barely bothers to disguise it.

What did the fool actually mean "the spirit of" or "intent of" a contract. A contract is a binding agreement, you cannot rely on the 'vibe'. His spin, and that's what it was, meant that the contract was NOT binding or drafted by a manifestly incompetent lawyer. He's gotta go!!!!!!

More Nettlefold magic!!!!

He must be wearing a hole in those beautiful new Seaford carpet tiles as he continues to pace round in symbolic circles making frantic calls to cover his ineptitude.

What ever happened with that hot looking chick lawyer that was appointed as a poliically correct move after the KD debacle?

Pardon my ignorance, but was she handling contracts or anything legitimately legal or just thrown in as a PC distraction?

Not a joke post, I'm serious...

Yes Sarah Galbally is still there....I hope
Her title is General Manager - Consumer Business. Don't think it's a token appointment, there's about 10 people in that dept. (including another lovely lady, Ashleigh Dummett)

Ameet Bains handles player contracts as General Manager - Player List & Legal Affairs
