There you go people. Surely we can close this story down.

Ross left for the cash. Plain and simple and the Board and club were 100% not at fault. They negotiated in good faith with his mgt - and it is unheard of for people to be double-dealing behind their own mgt.

Nothing we could have done different besides throwing an irresponsible amount of money at Lyon a year out from his contract expiry - which is madness.

So we can hold our heads up high people.

p.s Can we punch Patrick Smith in the face now?

Well said, and why would we lock someone away who was publicly wavering in his commitment to the cause, whose team had one win from what, 8 rounds and who asked to put talks on hold with a year to play out on his contract. My god, how is that the boards fault?!

Lucky he didn't invest in OneTell - would have had to ship his kids off to China.

Whilst it makes me think what a dill Ross was having so many of his financial eggs in one basket - and likely that he was geared to the hilt.... I also have some sympathy for the family's plight...

Could the club have done more to help him? He had to move his family in with his father in Reservoir - over 90 minutes drive each way to Seaford from there.....

Unfortunately that situation was a perfect storm. Given our history as a club - i.e of the board (or President at least) helping out a coach with buying a house (thinking back to GT and Buterrs) .... can hardly blame the club for being careful this time.

Also.... if we're speculating that Ross did not like the dilution of his control that Pelchen coming in represented, can we blame the board.... how much do you want a bloke who has lost over $1m in charge of one of your major departments....

You're assuming he told the club DS, I think he also said he only mentioned it to his closest friends?

I also think that was back in 2009, he lives in Templestowe now I believe?

Fremantle coach Ross Lyon faced financial ruin, losing a seven-figure sum in a single month during the global financial crisis, in an admission that has shed further light on his reasons for leaving St Kilda.

He should think himself very fortunate that he had a "seven figure sum" to invest in the first place! That's more money than your average Saints supporter will see in a lifetime.

Broke?? Bullsh1t!

&$%# OFF ROSS!!!

Club can't help what they don't know. His ego wouldn't accept any help anyway. Found this quote interesting....

"I was never going to abandon my players." Wouldn't that allude to some sort of loyalty, that god-awful word his never uses?

Haha! There's a name for people like that but I forget what it is. People who "love" themselves are attracted to people who look similar to them haha

had a mate lose over 300k in the 87 stockmarket crash.
asked him how he was feeling. he shrugged and said easy come easy go, take the good with the bad - the shares were now worth what he'd originally paid for them.
so technically ross might have lost a bit, but it's akin to walking into a casino, turning 100 into 10,000, then losing it again. many lost
tens of thousands from their super two years ago. it's all part of life.
it's just a means to justify what he knows was poor behaviour. freo are pulling out the pr machine to erase some deserved bad press for their new coach.

There's a helluva lot that has gone on behind the scenes and it's a fair bet we'll never find out the truth. Was the club wronged? Was Ross wronged? We've all probably got our own views but they're simply guesses, no doubt influenced by our own biases.

The only thing I know for absolute certain is that Ross is not the bloke I thought he was. And although I may be comforting myself after the fact, I for one am glad he is no longer at our club.

And yes Con, before last Thursday I was a Ross supporter, as you have alluded to on many threads. But the reality is that the Ross I supported no longer exists.

Who cares. He's now an ex-coach. We move on. The club is bigger than the individual.

Sing it loud and sing it proud but most of all hang around for this club will rise to claim the prize and then we will realise its not such a surprise. :-)
