Dont know how many times he needs to say it to stop the rumours.
He needs to say something that doesn't sound like carefully chosen words.
Eg, "I have retired permanently from coaching and won't be coming back" or "I will definitely not be coaching anyone in 2012 and probably never again" or "the rumours that I am about to sign with St Kilda are totally false".
Any one of those statements will kill all speculation stone dead.
"It is useless to attempt to reason a man out of a thing he was never reasoned into."
- Jonathan Swift
We need a young coach who will be enthusiastic and who will fully immerse himself and fully commit himself to the job .
The St Kilda administrators must ensure that this time we get a coach that has an overriding long term plan - so that at every stage we recruit and develop the best available young talent.
In other words ..
Our coach should have an overarching - Big Picture/Long Term Plan - to ultimately develop a happy, hard working team (like the Cats) that has a core group of talented players that basically coach themselves.
Short term gains for long term pain (ala RL) should not be tolerated.
How unequivocal do you need to be to satisfy the media?
How unequivocal do you need in order to be believed?
Example:
"There's more chance of me becoming the full-forward for the Dogs (Western Bulldogs AFL team) than there is any chance of a change in the Labor party."
Julia Gillard, 16 May 2010.
I don't think Mick is coming to St Kilda, but people like our current Prime Minister and our former coach have made it hard to believe any one.

Ah but to say so stops people asking which stops your name popping up which stops people hitting the link online which reduces your effectiveness at selling s***...
"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

We have to rule him out on that basis alone.
Forget the dinosaurs. Give someone new a chance.
I wonder if he said that to the Eagles when he was their coach?
What would you expect him to say to the Pie Army the day after the GF loss..
Well he didn't have to be that emphatic.
And instread of saying he's not going to any other club, and that he's not going to coach etc, he could simply say something like:
"I haven't decided what the future holds yet. I won't be coaching Collingwood because Nathan has now taken over. I just need a bit of time to get all my thoughts in order. Let's face it, the GF was only 24 hours ago and I'll need some time to come down from that"
That way, if he did somehow turn up at Seaford in a couple of weeks time he wouldn't look like the total Rosshead that he will if he does now.

Mick has a point to prove now
Situation has changed
Yep it now looks 100% that he will not coach this year.

You heard anything from your person?
Mine seems to be letting very little out as possible at the moment.

Malthouse told the feral horde yesterday that he was born a Collingwood supporter and that he'll die a Collingwood supporter.
After Ross "What Is Loyalty" Lyon, is this really the bloke we want to coerce into the job?

Would hope that the only reason he would come is that he believes that the club and playing group has the ability to have success not because of cash! Couldn't have another Blight episode.
Hopefully the club doesn't try the look at the cash angle. But from what we hear cash would be limited.
