Geez I hope so although it would be better for us if the club is GWS as we would also pick up compensation picks. Although BJ will be thinking Carlton because they are a chance at a flag.

One simple question. How can they afford him. Actually two questions. How does he get there. If we choose to let him go then we are shutting the window on Joey, Lenny, Rooy and Chips. And even worse. Doing it at the wrong time.

Not surprised. I think every team would be after Goddard if they could.

But geez I hope we don't lose him.

Why would it be shutting the window on those guys and why is it the wrong time?

A lot of "it is understood" speculation there. Can't see how Carlton could afford him, or why we would want to trade him. Not fussed about losing the other guys mentioned, but no way should we let Goddard go.

Na it's ok... Netters is negotiating with his manager.

Sportsnoozefirst also said Lyon was going to Melbourne... and then that a last minute plea from Roo and Lenny changed his mind. In other words, they make crap up.

Because we are losing our second or third best player that will most likely be replaced by the 33rd best player. And GWS get the first 400 picks. If you cant see that then you are obviously Stevie Wonder.

So what will we get for him when free agency comes in?

Did I miss Goddard say he was leaving when free agency comes in? Why does everyone want to move him on? I don't get it.

Let's deconstruct this collection of words.

"CARLTON could mount an audacious poaching bid in attempts to lure tough St Kilda on-baller Brendon Goddard away from the Saints. (Suggestion - no source)

Goddard, 26, is contracted to the Saints for next season. (Fact - need more of these)

But he could emerge as a prime candidate for a trade as his beleaguered club battle a projected hefty financial loss for this year as well as plans to spend a minimum of only 92.5 per cent of next year’s salary cap. (Again, use of the word "could".)

It is understood that Goddard is willing to consider a move as the Saints manage salary cap issues but will only consider switching to a club on the verge of a premiership. (Who is the one doing the "understanding"?)

Goddard has played 185 Saints games including two outstanding grand final performances in last year’s heart-breaking drawn premiership play-off and then the one-side replay loss to Collingwood a week later. (Second fact in the whole piece)

Goddard, running half-back Sam Gilbert, key defender Zac Dawson, utility Farren Ray and winger Brett Peake in recent weeks have all been linked with possible moves out of St Kilda on the back of the shock walk-out from coach Ross Lyon. (In articles like this one)

Carlton is known to be in the market for a hard-core, experienced big-game and strong-bodied inside midfielder to bolster their stoppages power alongside superstar play-makers Chris Judd and Marc Murphy. (As opposed to the other clubs, who don't want "hard-core, experienced big-game and strong-bodied inside midfielders)

Goddard ideally fits the Blues recruiting strategy and also adds proven forward line marking and firepower as additional currency to any potential switch to Carlton. (See last comment)

The Blues even made preliminary inquiries to Western Bulldogs first-year captain Matthew Boyd when he was in contract dispute with Dogs management early last month.

Boyd, 29, has since settled his negotiations and signed a new deal to most likely now finish his career with the Bulldogs. (Which is almost certainly what will happen with Goddard)

It seems the Blues have set sights on a possible trade with the Saints for Goddard. (Seems? Are they reading the wind? Consulting tea leaves?)

It is expected to take in the region of early draft picks as well as a player or two in swap for Goddard to switch while still under contract. (I expect absolutely none of this to happen)

Gilbert’s immediate Saints future also remains uncertain as his club stalls examination of their playing list while awaiting appointment of a new coach to replace Lyon." (Mention of another player under contract)

I love trade week.

I will be more than upset if he gets to that cheating pack of scum…

What is their first pick 30?

We may as well trade out the entire top 6 if we get rid of BJ, start from scratch.

How would I know but what I do know is that any negotiating power the Saints currently have will be gone after it comes into effect. Have a think about it for nano second.

They will have plenty of negotiating power if they sign him up before the end of next year though. That is, contract him beyond 2012 now!

If that is the case we better get rid of every player out of contract before free agancy as should every other club. Maybe you need to think about it a bit longer than a nano second.

No way would I accept pick 18 and a few crappy players for Goddard. If we are to trade Goddard we want at least 1 top 5 pick and 1 top 10 pick.

Macca posted the following....
Macca 3 October 2011 1:57PM
The blues first pick is 18, so would that plus Mclean, O'hailpin and Russell get the deal done?

My answer to that is a BIG NO!!!! Two top 10 picks plus all of those players, MAYBE.

Have we got the bag loads of money that will take, does Goddard want to limit his earning potential by doing that and almost as important is can we offer him a chance at a Premiership. No, No and No.
