Young players usually develop further with experience - Ray went backwards since 2009 and I think RL's negative game style may have had a lot to do with it.

The good thing is we have a few players like Ray who may benefit with a better coach who encourages and develops players - not just game styles.
onya Samoht for bringing it up and pointing it out.
I was always confused but non too surprised when Lyon turned Ray into a tagger. Especially when he went on the record & called him soft
He is at his best when free-wheeling, the trouble is, he is not damaging enough, consistently enough.
A new coach may be able to realise his potential, (or a new team) but for me, he is at the cross-roads and I hope if he continues on at the saints, he doesnt get too comfortable and relaxed.

He's not particularly fast, i rate him 6/10 on his kicking skill.

He'd be no big loss. He really adds nothing, and isn't so bad as to warrant an immediate delisting like Raph Clarke.

I don't know...pretty apathetic towards keeping/delisting Ray.

Reckon it might be a mistake to trade out Ray - unless it's a super deal - which may not happen if clubs believe the Saints have Sal Cap problems.
You will not get his true value to the club in a trade.

Strong mark and versatile. If they were going to tip out everyone with poor disposal - there might be about 10 players released

yeah, great overhead (i put him marginally behind bartel overhead given their similar sizes, bartel is excellent for his size)

I'd try him as the third foward in the NAB cup if he is still around.

To play forward you must have natural forward instincts. I doubt Ray has that otherwise he would have been tried there.

Because we needed forwards. If he had those instincts I am sure he would have played there. Also I never get the bit about a player being good over head so he can play as a forward. makes no sense.

Well most supporters felt we needed forwards.

Not convinced Ross felt the same way and he was the one with the magnetic board.

I'm not so sure, but perfectly happy to disagree with you.

Why does raph warrant immediate delisting? He was good this season apart from the Swans final was pretty good in the games we needed to win. Ray isn't as exposed because he plays a less obvious role.

thinking about it.
ray, gram and dawson to GWS for a first rounder might work.

GWS desprate for some players in the 23-26 age group or they are going to get seriously pole axed every week.

we can probably cover for those guys with guys like cripps, winmar, simpkin.

so if we get a single gun in return i wouldnt be unhappy.

Of course we can cover 66 games in a year with guys that have played 8 in their life. AFL footy is that simple.

ive been a massive supporter of ray and zac for years on this forum. just saying if GWs were desperate enough and threw something ridiculous (like a top 5 pick) at us - id take it.

i think thats the kite/bait pelchen is throwing up there. if they dont bit. those guys will stay.

but agree. dont think they are eaily replaceable (195cm key defenders dont grow on trees for starters). i meant we could try to replace them if we had to - ONLY given a super delicious offer.

Just re-signing Winmar was an extraordinary commitment based on what he's shown to date. He can kick the ball well but his VFL form is woeful, he hasn't got anywhere near it and most who've seen him play would presume that the occasions he has been named in the best have been designed as encouragement as opposed to reward.
