looks like we could take up to five, thanks sb.

but also judging from that there are 98 total rookie picks possible. 98! so i wouldn't be surprised if a few clubs failed to take all they've got space for, including the saints.

No, this year the AFL are having all 3 drafts at the same time... and they're dishing out free tea and biscuits.... apparently they're calling it the rookie wookie sookie with cookies draft.

I'm hearing whispers that saints are looking very likely to pick up Subiaco player Kyal Horsley.

He is a 24 year old mature midfielder, been likened to Matthew Priddis but less effective in the heavy stuff but a bit cleaner when in the open.

Important to note that Watters brought him to Subiaco so he has seen plenty of him. If the club head in this direction I certainly wouldn't complain, I haven't seen any live footage of him, so I can't really make a call either way but I wouldn't mind us giving him a chance, could be this years Barlow.

Subi B&F this year too. Is 88kg too heavy for a 182cm player?

rumour has it (various sources on the internet - believe what you will) that Collingwood have shown big interest in Horsley. Lots of forum talk and Phantom draft selections.

He sounds like a handy player although I'd probably select one of Magner or Horsley as they seem a little similar??

Hope your are right - Armoooo! If we were to take him I think we will have to pull the trigger early rather than a later choice.

My Rookie wish list ....

I think we still need to add some (mid range) aged players to our list and another mature ruckman is must if the Saints are taking 2012 seriously.

# 12 Kyal Horsely / Marcus Marigliani = Strong midfielder
# 30 Julian Dobosz / Nic Murphy = Full forward
# 48 Jai Sheehan / Xavier Richards = KPP defender
# 65 Daniel Hughes / Lee Spurr = HFF
# 79 Daniel Currie / Broc McAuley = Ruckman

I dont believe the Saints see Kosi or Stanley as a No. 1 ruckman proposition if McEvoy goes down.

I would be very pleased with Horsley, they need another inside mid. Another mature age WAFL player Watters rates is Jason Salecic.....
Braden O'Hara, Central Districts, mature age mid/HB, is similar to Horsley if he is taken before their pick

The practical implication of GWS getting 5 priority picks in the Pre-Season Draft is that they get to look over the players left after the National Draft and select 5 priority ROOKIES.
But these guys will added to the senior list, get paid as senior players and have those salaries count against the salary cap.
That salary cap will not be an issue as it is vastly more than established clubs and they used their national draft picks to draft kids rather than trade for more expensive experienced players.

If St Kilda had the money in the salary cap that 5th rookie selection could have been a Pre Season Draft pick.
Maybe even 2 if Archer is still a rookie.

With more than 2 players eligible for veterans status the club could have had 2 veterans outside the list leaving 2 vacancies on the senior list.
One of these may or may not be occupied by Archer.
He is still shown as a senior listed player but was not upgraded in the National Draft so could be a rookie temporarily upgraded only.

The club will be able to nominate 2 rookies eligible for senior selection if Archer is indeed still a rookie, otherwise only one.

In bold is who I would select out of your two options if both players are available.
But isn't Jai Sheehan a key forward not a defender?

Dobosz wont last to pick 30. Dont forget 17 other clubs are picking also. Maybe we should be using our second or third picks on a ruckman. Wont be much left by round 5. Might be a plan to revisit the Territory for a pick.

don't think so he's not that great .. If he had a different surname he would not be under consideration by fans ...

Horsley is defiantly going to be picked up by someone either us collingwood essendon or Freo will pick him ... Also have a feelin Mark Hutchings will be picked up by a Vic club
