The most Depressing game in the world
Is the game where we re-do the draft with the benefit of hindsight.
Now for the record... I'm not having a dig at the selectors nor am I oblivious to the fact that my super hindsight drafting would change the draft order in future seasons.
So here it is... the drafting that ensures the Saints win at least 6-8 premierships.
2001
Alternatively lets keep our pick 33 for Stevie Lawrence
1. Nick Riewoldt
2. Shaun Burgoyne
33. Chris Newman
64. Graham Johncock
75. Robert Powell
82. Daniel Wulf
2002
Keep pick 17 traded for Heath Black and pick 45 for Trent Knobel
2. Chris Judd
5. James Bartel
13. Nick Dal Santo
17. Steve Johnson
21. Sam Mitchell
37. Leigh Montagna
45. Dane Swan
49. Brian Lake
2003
Keep Peter Everite (no pick 6 or 22) hence no Barry Brooks but we keep 31, would still have traded pick 17 for Luke Penny
1. Brendon Goddard
22. Jason Porplyzia
31. Brent Staker
46. Brent Moloney
2004
No Fiora
17. Mark LeCras
33. Ivan Maric
49. Chris Knights
63. James Gwilt
71. Eddie Betts
2005
Keep pick 17 - no Fergus Watt
17. Sam Gilbert
33. Andrew Swallow
49. Paul Duffield
63. Matthew Priddis
2006
9. Jack Riewoldt
27. Kurt Tippet
59. Josh Hill
74. David Rodan

B Johncock, Lake, Newman
HB Burgoyne, S.Fisher, Goddard
C Montagna, Mitchell, Bartel
HF Dal Santo, N.Riewoldt, Swan
F Milne, J.Riewoldt, S. Johnson
R Everite, Hayes, Judd
Int Moloney, Swallow, Gwilt, Duffield
Emg LeCras, Maric, Gilbert
Note I missed Sam Fisher initally going for Porps... undo that
I'm a little light on for ruckman it seems but then we would get McEvoy in 07 plus I could pbly stand to trade a few players to get Kruezer too
What can i say... i'm good

Yes, but they're all ambassadors for Gregorys Transport, working 5 minutes a month on salaries of $2,000,000 each.remboy wrote:A midfield with Hayes, Dal Santo, Montagna, Goddard, Mitchell, Bartel, Swan and Judd
Just as well the salary cap is $20 million
The $50 pa the club pays them goes into the cap of course
what st kilda needs is more environmental ambassadors.
The list we had got within a kick of 2 premierships.
noting the poster given to Hawkins
shuffling the decks is no guarantee.
And of course 20/20 hindsight is a wonderful thing.
got within a bad umpires call of of a grandfinal in 2004.
Shoulda, coulda, didn't.
Who said shuffling the deck chairs wouldn't have resulted in the same situation.
judd might have left faster for Carlton $$$ if he was at st kilda.

This.
There is no guarantee that Judd would have stayed had we drafted him - look at how players like Hamill, Kosi, Ball and Maguire - not to mention X - were handled before 2008 by our so-called conditioning team. Judd would have been played week in week out, with very little rehab and probably would have wrecked his shoulder completely, and then left to go to any club which would manage his body better.
Much as I loved how we played under GT, the state or our players by September left us with no chance of winning the big one. We would not have been able to take Brisbane in 2004 had we made it. Sure we had beaten them a couple of times by a few points at that stage, but they would have monstered us in a Grannie.
Chris Newman?!? A good player in a shocking team he may be, but still...
