a Gem from the past

Post: # 1187463Post mcadam05 »

Back in 1923 a man by the name of Bill McKechine a printer by trade, began producing a 16page weekly club magazine, The St Kilda Football Review. It was an overtly political publication and McKechine often used it to promote his own views on club policy and on the Committee in-fighting.
But it also had Match reports of both the seniors and seconds, player profiles and bits and pieces from around the club.

The Magazine ran from 1923 to 25 and then 32 to 34

McKechine backed up his words by not only serving on the Committee but also as club president then as club delegate to the VFL

The Magazine is very Rare and hard to find and i guess a lot of you havent seen one before so i would like too share with you the Issue dated 19th of May 1933 please ENJOY! :D

So it was the 1920s answer to Saintsational.

this the photo/card,there are 12 in the set with some unnumbered others that popped up
A very rare card worth 150 - 200 but very easy too fake so be careful if your thinking of buying one

That is the second one I have seen.

I have one here from 1933...

My Grandfather is on the cover.

They are very, very, very rare.

Showed mine to the club once and they didn't want to give it back. I got rather animated about that one.

"Now the ball is loose, it gives St. Kilda a rough chance. Black. Good handpass. Voss. Schwarze now, the defender, can run and from a long way".....

Wouldn't it be nice if the Saint magazine that us members get was as informative as that mag. The saint magazine used to be good but the last five or so years , given its glossy pages , its not even fit to be used as dunny paper !!!

There's 3 very rare sets of cards from the 30's all St Kilda the first one you have seen the other two were sold as raffle tickets.

1937 only 10 have been seen
