The Point of it all
I managed to pick up a copy on Ebay last year and it seemed that more of the 500 copies were becoming available
a quick check today shows another one is up for sale- around the price they were going last year.

Surely there's demand enough for a reprint - with an update?
what's the story there?
I read somewhere that Russell ( Holmsby) said I think it was planned for 1997 if the Saints had won
one copy saw had been badly under valued at some point in it's journey was priced at $12 as seen inside front cover. was bought for alot more than that
obviously original owners are now 'passing away?' and family or others are unaware of the rarity of it.
one on ebay last year started at around $90 before going for the 300 mark

Re: The Point of it all
i tell ya what this book is fantastic
im up to about 1946/47
Alan Hird coached us for these years and was a school teacher in Essendon (from memory)
is that James Hirds grandfather, uncle, or alike?
has to be a relation doesnt it?
also a Howard Lockett played for us in 1885 (i think it was)
fascinating book, great pictures and very in depth

Allan Hird was the Grandfather of James Tird who is best remembered for providing character references.

anyone know if the Howard Lockett who played for us was any relation to PLugger?
Pretty sure he wasn't but I think his brother or some relation, Jack Lockett was a WW1 vet, and at one stage, was Australia's oldest man.

Re: The Point of it all
the only one listed on saints on
http://stats.rleague.com/afl/stats/alltime/stkilda.html
and here
http://www.saints.com.au/saints%20playe ... fault.aspx
is Tony-
But they only list players who played in the seniors
many played reserves or under 19's and there don't appear to be records of these players.

Re: The Point of it all
Howard Lockett (Tony's father) was also called "Plugger".
(Actually he was "Plugger" before "Plugger").
He was a legend in the Ballarat league winning something like five B&F's.
But he never came down to Melb to try out VFL.
Shame as by all accounts he would have made a big impact.
But no idea if Howard was related to the Howard Lockett who played in 1885.

Re: The Point of it all
I'm actually reading a book that goes back further than St Kilda the Football club
historical book called "the Life and Death of St Kilda" which is about the Island of the Name
and a couple of mentions of a group of about 1/3 of their population who took the long journey to Melbourne Australia.... but not on "the lady of St Kilda" for which the suburb is named.
